COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottle, thanks Vaiz! Slight hazy brownish orange pour, thick creamy head slowly dissipates and collapses. Aroma of pine, some fruit, hops and sour lychee. Nice. Strong bitter flavour with hops, lychee and orange peel.

Bottle. Pours an almost clear orange color with a very thick, lasting white head that leaves lacing. Aroma of hop with orange, grass, citrus and some floral notes. Very bitter flavor, slightly tropical with a hint of lychee. and a very long bitter finish. Lots of carbonation. Great brew.

I had this after the Bistro’s DIPA fest and it still stood up to it. I love this beer and one of the best IPAs available, IMO. Drinking it in Triptych as part of the Alesmith event at City Beer Store for SF Beer Week, it stands out as one of the best beers of the week - fruity and floral, great body, smooth and just totally delicious. I had a bottle of this almost a year ago and loved that too. I just wish you could get more Alesmith in the UK!

Bomber. Pours golden with an inch of thick, fluffy white head and lots of tiny particles swimming around in the glass. Aroma is very sharp floral hops along with pine and citrus fragrances. Flavor begins with a strong grapefruit and hop presence followed by subtle malt sweetness and pine. Finish is dry and bitter with intense carbonation and a pleasantly smooth and warm hop aftertaste. Yet another exceptionally tasty and original California style IPA.

Nice caramel body with a few floaties and huge creamy head. Aroma has beautiful floral character. Flavor is nicely bittered with some nice sweet crystal malts giving a nice background. Burns a little on the finish. Really well done.

A: Golden in color with a slight haze to it, tons of foam on this one (seems to happen a lot with the AleSmith brews). S: Pine and grapefruit from the hops, not much malt on the nose. T: Much like you would expect, lots of citrus and a great piney bitterness. Hardly any malt in the taste, either. M: Great crispness to this beer, fairly light on the body. D: A wonderful IPA from AleSmith, good balance and great bitterness.

22oz poured into a pint glass. Color is a golden peach with minimal off white soapy head. Aroma is floral with a bit of citrus as well. Very tasty, just the right amount of citrus style hoppyness. Finishes strong and tight, leaves an aftertaste that seems bitter at first but finishes sweet. I’ve lived in San Diego for 2 years and somehow never had the pleasure of sampling Ale Smith’s IPA, only their Little Devil and Horny Devil. That was a mistake. This one is instantly pretty high on my list.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into three pint glasses to be shared among friends. The color was dark-orange, cloudy, and had a pillowy white head. The smell was a little citrus and kinda hard to define. The taste was a little fruity but no one flavor dominated. A very good IPA and the alcohol was well hidden. I’d probably buy this on the regular if I could. 2nd bottle consumed may have been a little fresher. Notes of orange were in the aroma and pine needles and candy were in the flavor. Yummy stuff.
