COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2010 Truly a great IPA. Appearance is cloudy, and golden orange. Aroma of pine, resin, citrus, herbs. Deliciously hoppy, but not overwhelmingly so. The flavors are very well balanced here slight tones of sweet. Great finish. I highly recommend this beer to anyone. Even if you’re not a hophead.

22 oz Bottle -- Pours bright cloudy orange with a thick rocky off-white head. Very floral and citrus driven nose. Flavor wise there is some mild caramel, tangerine, grapefruit, floral and resin hops, and yeast. Pretty sweet upfront and medium bitterness on the back-end.

Pours clear copper with a big frothy head. Overwhelming hop smell of spruce, and a little floral scent. A very bitter beer. Definitely a must for the hopheads.

Location: On tap at the Brewery, 1/8/10

Aroma: Lots of hops, pine, grass, earth, citrus, resin
Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy golden-orange
Flavor: Big hop/bitter flavor, some sweetness, but mostly hops
Palate: Medium-full body, decently long duration, nice mouthfeel
Overall Impression: A really good IPA. These guys make some seriously quality beers, and all their stuff is good, but their hoppy beers sure are great. Good stuff. I’ve gotta say, I enjoyed this one a lot. I wish AleSmith would sell their stuff in my neck of the woods, but maybe I’m better off, because I could see me drinking entirely too much of this stuff if it was that easy to get.

Pours slightly cloudy golden orange color with golden yellowish hues when held to a light source and a frothy, soapy 2.5 finger head with excellent retention, only very slowly fading into a lasting cap that coats the glass with streaks of soapy lacing. Very earthy hop aroma with a prominent citrus fruit character, subtle pine and faint malt backbone. Lots of lemon peel, mango and grapefruit in the nose as well as some biscuit Graham crackery malt. Clean crisp medium body that is very hop forward with a good balance of sweet citrus and dry pine notes. Pretty bitter and dry at first but with a nice amount of lemon and orange peel, mango and grapefruit and a subtle Graham cracker malt backbone that doesn’t interfere with the glorious hoppiness. Lingering dry finish. Delicious dank, oily chewy hopbomb! Highly recommended!

Bomber via darn darn1207’s mother-in-law coming down from Ohio. Why we can’t get the good stuff in Tallahassee escapes me. Pours an attractive hazy light copper-orange with generous, pillowy head. Aroma citrus pine needles. First sip, damn good. Big citrus. Creamier mouthfeel than expected. Kinda reminds me of a Dreamsicle (remember those?). Sub-medium carbonation. Dry bitter finish. Of the other IPAs I’ve had, I’m reminded of the Founder’s Centenial (sim citrus, more bitter) and the Sweetwater IPA. Intensely h[oa]ppy, balanced with just enough malt. As the bottle says, "It’s pretty awesome".

Pours hazy orange with a nice white head and some lacing. Excellent aroma of hops and sweet citrus fruit. Pretty full body. Citrus fruit overwhelms the taste. Overall an excellent beer and a must buy if you haven’t tried it.
