Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottle at home Thanks to WeeHeavySD for this Golden orange ... Really resniny juicy piney american hops ... Tarty Dry intense overpowerfully hop ... quite a lot of bitterness ... quite spicy ... tasty enough but not for me the best of its type ... and quite heavy going

Burnished gold with some hop haze and nice long lasting off white head Nose of Citrus (grapefruit, tangerine) some resin. With honeyish malt with some alcohol notes as well Flavor: Really rich complex hop flavor with a big hop bite. Honey, toast, vanilla, tangerine, grapefruit, rind, spice and round out the party. Palate: Really long lasting, changing flavors from initial burst of malt sweetness to a drying hop finish. Overall an IPA I have been trying to find for a while and especially being one of the highest rated IPAs. I have to say "EXCELLENT" The aroma and flavor seems to have dulled a touch from time and transport. This comes across almost as a double IPA with its malt and alcohol but the drying finish with honeyish notes is the signature for this one.

Pours with a large, thick white head covering a slightly hazy golden body with tiny bubbles. Strong, heavy, sip by sip lacing left on the sides of my Stone Gaurdian glass. Retention from the head is full throught the lifetime of the glass. Aroma is very nice with citrus (mainly grapefruit) and floral hops galour, a little bit of spiceyness, and some sweet malts and some rich nearly dark fruits in the back. Taste is nice and balanced IPA with a very refreshing hop bitterness in great balance with the sweet malts and alcohol. Finishes with a rich spiceyness that is not too common in basic IPAs. Mouthfeel is velvety with lively bubbles. Deserves to be the best IPA on the site.

Bottle, many thanks to stefanje. Amazing IPA. Just amazing. Cloudy amber color with a nice head. Wonderful floral hop aromas and citrus as well. Flavor is so great. Hops kick your ass at first but then they give way to a nice rich malty massage on your tongue. Hell yes, what a beer!

Golden orange with a generous head that retained its thickness for a while and left lots of lacing. Strong pine hops aromas, with grapefruit and lemon evident. Taste was dominated by the hops, but well balanced with sweet maltiness. Slightly creamy texture, lots of carbonation. Not sure where you draw the line between IPA and IIPA, but this must come close. Excellent, excellent beer.

This is probably pound for pound one of the best IPAs that categorically fits into an Imperial, but is just perfect just as it is. The overly hoppy pine nose, follows right on through into the flavor, with some light citrus fruitiness, and a strong caramel maltiness. Has a slick sweetness, balanced by a bitter orange rind acidity. This is really a beautiful beer to drink.
