COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Wow, 1000th rating for this beer. I’ll do my best. 22 oz. bottle from Belmont Party Supply in Dayton. Aroma of citrus (orange, lemon, and grapefruit), floral hops, caramel malts, pine resin, and vanilla. Smells so fresh. The flavor also has a lot of citrus and a cool floral hop bitterness, with a good amount of caramel, and notes of pine resin, spices, apricot, and mixed berries. Lasting finish of citrus and bitter hops, with a lingering aftertaste of the same. Medium bodied, without the bite of a lot of IPAs, partly because of the mild carbonation. Nice balance for the complexity of this IPA. Very, very good.

Serving date: 2009-05-17. Served in snifter. Amber colored, slightly hazy due to bottle conditioning. A 3 cm white head that leaves plenty of chunky lacings as it settles. Decent retention and great looking lacings. The smell has a very pronounced citric hop character - lemon and grapefruit abound. Plenty of floral hops and hop resins as well. Some caramel and subdued malts. Slightly spicy. The hop aromas are really outstanding and so fresh they almost sting the nose. A wonderful hop character in the taste as well. Grapefruit and lemon peel dominate. Faint notes of mango. The malty caramel flavor is quite big but still obviously plays second violin with the hops taking center stage. Some spices in the middle. The finish is rather bitter, but the bitterness is really integrated in the overall profile. It finishes with floral hops, pine-needles and again a slightly spicy sensation. The finish is long. No sign of the alcohol. Medium body, not very crisp. The carbonation level in this one is close to perfect. Medium amount of small and rather calm bubbles - it really suits the beer well. D: A great IPA. Perhaps not very complex, but very well balanced and with a beautiful hop character of lemon and grapefruit. It goes down really easy. 22 oz. bottle. Pours an orange/amber color with a medium sized foamy off white head. The aroma is sweet caramel, fruity, citrus, with a hints of pine and yeast. The flavor is a near perfect blend of sweet malts, caramel, vanilla, and the citrus and resiny hops. There is a background fruitiness throughout. The bitterness lingers on the palate for some time. Medium bodied and very smooth; this is a joy to drink. The alcohol acts only to warm. I am happy we have AleSmith distribution in Cincinnati. Rating #995 for this beer.

Bottle courtesy of Smokepot23. Poured a hazy light orange with a thin off-white head. Nose is reinous with big citrus and pine notes. Medium bodied with a smooth mouth feel and good carbonation. Flavor is very clean, lots of piney citrus notes balanced well with caramel sweetness. Smooth, hoppy, bitter finish. Awesome beer. Will I ever find an AS I don’t like? Probably not.

Cream color head. Pours cloudy with sediment. Complex, deep aroma, citrus and pine. Bitter, light body. Soft carbonation, almost watery. Overall: I don’t like over-hopped beers, so this was very drinkable.
