Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottle - Thanks Harry!!!! Hazy orange colour - slight suddy white head. Aroma - if I could market this as a perfume, I would; sexy sweet hop aroma, what a thrill to inhale, literally hypnotic, like an Arabic Princess gliding by you in an old city market. Flavour - Delicious, delicious, delicious: Hops and candyfloss and baby Jesus’ tears. An absolute assault on the senses, a sexy assault. Amazing. I cried a little.

Tap @ the brewery. Pours a cloudy golden copper color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is heavily citrus hops with a slight bit of malt thrown in for good measure. Taste is grapefruit and pine needles up front dissolving into an absolutely wonderful citrus hop finish. The beer remains smooth and supremely drinkable despite the heavy carbonation. This immediately became my new favorite IPA, and another smash hit from AleSmith.

Another quality brew by AleSmith. Pours a murky copper with a head that lingers. Nose of citrus and hops, very nice on the palate with a nice dry finish. Very high quality beer for the price.

Deep golden/copper in color this poured a big head of small bubbles that stayed tight. The nose was filled with grapefruit followed by some piney hops and a bit of caramel coated malt balls. In the mouth these flavors continued into a balanced midpalate of medium density. The finish showed off the bitterness though through the midpalate it was well-balanced with sweet malt.

[Bottle, thanks Skyview!] Pours hazy orange with a big cream head. Aroma and taste are both dominated by citrus hoppiness. Caramel malt also in there. Not overly bitter as some IPAs end up being. Medium-thick mouthfeel. Good finish. Didn’t find it to be too complex, but really well made and a very nice IPA. Original rating: 8/4/7/4/17=4.0

Re-rate: [Bottle, thanks Guerde!] I split half a bottle this time, and I actually liked it less. The aroma is pretty good, but the taste really left a lot to be desired. Good, but really falls well short of IPAs like Surly Furious.

Picked up a 22-oz bomber at John’s Marketplace in Portland, Oregon during the summer of 07. Pours a slight hazed golden brew with thin particles and a thick, lumpy off-white head that just barely goes away. Aroma of sweet tangerines, some citrus zest, pine and a hint of caramel malt. Taste is medium bodied with some carbonation. The flavor really kicks up a few notches with a sweet tangerine, grapefruit and caramel flavor. Finish has a nice bitter bite with a dry flavor that lingers around after the finish. Another excellent brew from Alesmith.

Another great brew courtesy of Skyview. Slightly hazy golden color with a nice finger thick dirty white head. Great cirtusy hop aroma with apparent pine as well as a floral quality too. The flavor is great. Citrus grapefruit and lemon and a hint of caramel with a nice smooth bitter finish.

22oz bottle-pours a rich to rocky off white head that laces and gold color. Aroma is sweet lemon zest-citrus (Amarillo), pine hops-bite (also cascade?), secondary/faint medium malt-caramel. Taste is solid, sessionable, just off from the great aroma, sweet lemon zest-citrus (Amarillo), pine hops-some bite (also cascade?), secondary medium malt-caramel.. Further in the taste gets closer to the aroma and the bite strengthens a bit. Nice American IPA. OK/mild carbonation.
