Huge head, very lasting w/big bubbles & good lacing. Very piney aroma, some nuttiness present too. Very sweet smelling, almost like a candy. Soft fizzy mouthfeel. Piney hops & some malt. Bittery good but not too caustic. Warming up, drier, less bitter & hoppy. BuckeyeBoy (1654), Boise, Idaho, USA

A very nice pine hop aroma. Tast of sweet caramel and pine along with citrus hops. A nice light bitter end. A very smooth and easy drink. no alcohol picked up by me for over 7% that is pretty good. A very nice IPA. But hey what did you expect from ALE SMITH. cgort (52), mission viejo, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Smelled citrusy and hoppy. Appeared a slightly brownish color with a large head that was off-white. Tasted hoppy, grapefruit, bitter aftertaste and good. Overall a good beer that I would love to have another of. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 11, 2008 In short: One of the most intense <8% IPA. Extremely bitter grapefruit and pine-needles hopping. Amazing stuff.
How: 22oz bottle from my Secret Festivus. A million thanks whoever you are.
The look: Clear golden body with a medium beige head
In long: Intense nose of grapefruit with some pineapples and pine-tree. Taste is just as intense as the nose. Almost too intense! The initial attack is smooth and surprisingly sweet. Not thick caramel-sweet, more like crisp sugary honey/caramel sweetness. But then the intense fruity bitterness kicks-in and is it ever tasty. I’m talking intensely bitter to the point of making faces. And that’s a hop-head talking. The bitter hops flavours we equally grapefruit and pine-tree seconded by pineapples and citrus. The more the beer warmed up the more the pine-tree was coming out and it was drying out the beer quite nicely. More highly drinkable chilled than cold. This beer is a slap in the face and unless your idea of a good time is being chained and tied-up in a tight latex suit this is the most pleasant slap in the face you can get.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2008 The baby was put to bed. We had 15 minutes until 30 Rock came on. Dinner was finished. This is the moment in the evening when things feel calm, a lull takes over the living room, we have peace of mind until the baby starts waking up, until night completely takes over. I’m sitting deep in an over-sized couch. I don’t give a damn about New Hampshire. I open the Alesmith IPA I bought from South Bay a few weeks ago. Total floral aroma. Sweet hops. Citrus. All the cliches of IPA talk, yes. But this beer makes me feel good. It makes the lull feel good. It makes the night feel good. This is a damn good IPA. One of the best I’ve had. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Updated: Mar 30, 2009Good IPA - but I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest, as it has been rated here. Stone, Racer 5 and Hop Devil are all better IPAs. But don’t get me wrong, the Eagles are the most overrated band in the world, and they still make good music.
The hops are very aromatic in this one - you can practically smell the bottle across the room. It pours a hazy amber with minimal head. First flavor is pine, which dominates, peeling back into a finish that is bittersweet.
ON LATER ANALYSIS: This stuff is smooth, but at the same time giving a very nice hop nose. For that alone, I’ve knocking this up a point or two. AmEricanbrew (1808), Doing Rogue, Louisiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 19/20 | Jan 9, 2008 Yellowish-amber color with a frothy two finger white head.
Strong floral and piney hop aroma with a whiff of caramel.
Medium bodied with mild carbonation.
Big hop flavors dominate the first taste of this brew . A smooth , sweet caramel flavor makes a brief appearance only to be snuffed out by a big, hop garden taste to finish.
A great IPA here.Jan 2006
