COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Very hoppy, flowery aroma. Perfect body for an IPA, has the nice biting hops that west coast IPA’s tend to have, but still remains very drinkeable.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of daknole. Thanks! Hazy, golden orange appearance with a creamy, white head. Potent grapefruity, citrusy, mild piney hoppy aroma with a sweet maltiness and some dryness. Creamy mouth feel. Grapefruit, creamy, lightly piney hoppy, slightly tangy, sweet malty flavor with a lingering dry finish. Above average IPA.

GABF 2011. Clear brilliant gold, smooth small white head. Brilliant citrus hop aroma, with some pine resin and caramalt. Nice hoppy flavor, but a little "green". Imbalances toward bitter with pine and grassy floral tones, not much sweetness.

Pour orange with a thin white head good lace. Aroma sweet, caramel, cereal, pine, citrus hops, not overly abrasive, smells outstanding. Taste bitter, citrus, pine, caramel, cereal, sweet malts, grapefruit, very balanced. MF medium body nice light carb. Scary balance not a hop bomb but just extremely well brewed, this beer is crushable and delicious if this was readily available it would be my regular drinking beer.

Bottle shared with ma dad.. Pours amber with an off white head. Aroma is piney hops, floral notes, citrus, orange, grapefruit, yeasty notes, hay and mandarin. Taste is straight forward hoppy with notes of citrus, lemon peel, grapefruit, pine, yeast, floral, lime and some malts in the background. Long and bitter duration. West Coast classic.

Gli americani sono maestri in questo. Hanno cambiato il modo di concepire le IPA, e questa è la loro versione più alta.

Drank a bomber from San Diego friends. Nice lacing white head and good aroma of pine resin and citrus with some malt. Taste was a little disappointing for there was more malt than expected, although a very balanced beer! I’d love to try it on tap though.
