Amber pour with a huge white meringue like sticky and lasting head. Smell is sweet fruity hops at first, with some citrusy notes and then hops turn more earthy. Taste is a quite sharp hoppy bitterness and flavor. Some light sweetness, but I personally would like to see just a touch more to balance out the big hops. After pouring the end of the bomber, it clouds up and is a nice hazy amber, and the body seemed to thicken up a bit. The alcohol is well hidden, and although this isn’t one of my top 2 or 3 favorite IPAs it’s still quite good, strong in hop flavor, and one worth trying. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 13, 2007 frothy off white head. hops aroma. Grapefruit, spruce, citrus. Color is a dark golden orange. crisp very drinkable beer. More hops with a some malts for backbone. Great balance. Finish is a little dry with good lingering bitterness. Perfect finish. Great IPA. EricDanger (23), USA Oct 10, 2007 Strong piney-citrusy character. The alcohol is blended well for a big IPA. This is one of those classic IPAs that you use to judge other IPA’s by. I would love to try it on-tap, only had the bomber. dwedin (238), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 4, 2007 Huge head, clear orange pour with nice lacing. Malt - cookie and a hint of caramel. Hops - grapefruit, citrus, maybe spruce. Alc is noticeable but doesn’t detract. Lots of bitterness with a long somewhat dry finish. SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA Oct 1, 2007 Bottle: Pours orange and copper color with big white frothy head. Aroma of citrus fruits, lots of fresh orange and grapefruit hop aroma. Flavor is malty but overpowered by the hops, lots of citrus, pithy rind bitterness, clean and smooth with lots of tingly bitterness at the finish all over the tongue. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 30, 2007 Bottled. Thx Marsiblursi.
Amber colour, with big foam. Delicat aroma, very much finesse here: Wheat? Laid back hoparoma with oranges. Wonderful flavour in perfect balance, starting with excellent maltiness at first, then comes waves of tropical fruits, before a very nice, lingering bitterness sets in. Very soft mouthfeel with tad vanilla. IPA meets IIPA here. Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 29, 2007 Updated: Jul 30, 2008(Bottle, thanks WeeheavySD) Pours hazy amber with a big foamy white head. Hops up front in the aroma with tones of citrus, mostly grapefruit, pine and resin. Some subtle tropical mango tones. Nicely toasted malt is well integrated with sweet tones of white bread, light caramel and light cookie. Hints of creamy vanilla ice cream. Creamy, toasted malt and balanced, creping up on you style-ish hop bitterness in flavour. Grapefruit up front with fruits, citrus and hints of berries in the background. Tiny caramelly. Also some floral/pine and resin. Creamy, round and velvety mouthfeel with a minty touch. Light sweet and perfect medium to full bitterness. Light to medium body. Best IPA in the world? Probably! Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2007 poured into tulip. pours a cloudy orange with full frothy white head. citruss, strong hoppy aroma. almost a milky smooth palate. smooth, sweet citruss orange front, with a great mouthfeel to it. bitterness peeks at the perfect time in the middle, but goes into a nice smooth finish. complexity at how it approaches the palate and finishes off. good.
