AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Finally, the famous Alesmith IPA. It pours copper hazy with a big beige head. Smells of citrus zests, alot of pine, dust, malts and spices. Medium sweet, nice malt body, fruity and very woody. Heavy bitter, quite resiny accompanied with citrus zests, pine and hints of herbal tea. A very pleasent IPA, extremely drinkable, nice pine domination in aroma and flavor. Mui bien

Thin white head, floral and piney smelling. Very solid. Might have been over-hyped for me, but itís really good.

Aromas of citrus and citrus peel. Huge white head with lots of lacing. Sweet candy taste with a bitter pine finish. Balanced well but Iíd like to see more hop flavour ... maybe lemon drop.

Pours deep amber with thin white head. Nose is hoppy. Aromas are toasted malts, tropical fruits, citrus and resinous pine, with a salty note. Fizzy carbonation, oily texture. Medium bitter finish mainly resinous. Well-balanced, refreshing and pleasant IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From notes on 3/7/15 Wow, One of the best IPAs Iíve ever had. Not sure why Iíve always passed up on this one. Excellent example of what an IPA should be. Deep golden amber pour. Huge floral aroma. Very flowery beer. Sharp resin bitter taste, followed by hints of floral notes and strong fruity citrus notes.

Quite fruity and flowery hoppy smell. The color is yellow to orange. The taste is fruity bitter, but a little bit more hops and carbonation would have been beneficial. Solid aftertaste with a certain dryness. Great beer, but not my favorite IPA out there.

6 oz, teku tasting glass. Bottled since 3 weeks, fresh, THANKS BOB! Pours a quite abundant, slighlty off-white head; brass golden to dark orange clear colour. The nose itís superlative: mango, tropical, floral, juicy; thereís that unmistakable sweet fruity, aromatic hoppiness that just come with this kind of top notch ales. Tastes fruits( melon, peach), top malty, orange peel, piny; the balance itís the 2nd superlative thing bout this IPA: medium and perfect sweetness, which slowly fades away(not fast as most IPAs,) leaving space to a medium bitterness which again slowly develops; veery nice juicy hops. Bitter and sweet notes are both very distinguishable, and such perfectly mixed at the same time. Right average carbonation, medium body, silky texture. Maltiness itís quite perfect, crisp and such refined; not overdone like in many ipas, most of times to cover the strong hoppiness. Aroma and balance just take this brew to the highest level. Could be best IPA Iíve ever tasted

From bottle. Wow, what a nice brew, very well balanced with pleasant hop aroma, bit dry taste and bitter aftertaste.

Quite a benchmark IPA. Lovely appearance with nice white lacing. Intense hop kick never losing balance with just enough maltiness. Mostly citrus bouquet with some tropical boost. Stand out grapefruit, peach. Light pine. Moderate sweet with moderate bitterness. Superbly well balanced and highly enjoyable brew.

Bottle as an aniversary gift from Pix. Pours clear amber with a good thick cream froth. Lovely sweet grapefruit aroma. Instant hit of big swet pine and citrus flavour followed by a nice bitter lingering finish. The alcohol comes through. Very drinkable. Great beer.

Cloudy orange pour, all pine and sweet malts on the nose, powerful hop punch on the palate. Tangerine, plums, tropical fruits, grapefruit vie for top honours with a solid malt base. Top notch IPA. San Diego classic
