AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Pour clear amber, with a small white head. Aroma of pine, apricot, mango (plenty of them tropical fruits going on), slight grass, spruce... Sure is delicious, and reminds me of what a textbook "west-coast" is like. The taste has some faint sweet notes upfront, with a heavy and long bitter, and slightly dry aftertaste. Average bodied, with an semi-fizzy/lively carbonation. Sure is a nice way to end this evening, think I’ll be going to bed shortly after this SOB...

On tap at Mission Dolores, Brooklyn. Pours a clear honey golden color with a big frothy beige head. Aroma is grapefruit, orange, very floral, resin. Very fresh smelling beer. Amazing. Flavor is hop forward, lots of grapefruit, and orange. Decent biscuit malt backbone that’s noticeable. Good balance. Nice carbonation. One of the best IPAs I’ve had.

22oz bottle into tulip. Excellent aroma - citrus and pine. taste is bitter, especially in the finish. Overall, this beer is really nice. A little more piney and bitter than I would prefer.

Poured a big three finger, creek foam-like head. Very clear, light amber-copper color and big thick lacing. Aroma is very citrusy, some pine, hop resin and grapefruit. Right down the road medium body and smooth for an ipa with a little quick bite at the end. Piney, lime, citrus, grapefruit and resiny hops fill the palate. Pale malts, mellow sweet malts and caramel accented malts round it out. Very solid! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Large off-white head, lasting. Lot of lacing. Hazy orange. Piney & citrusy. Classic american hops profile. Light malt base. Very balanced. Nice bitter aftertaste. Not feeling the 7.25 ABV.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond shop. Hazy yellow orange with a nice creamy head. Strong hoppy aroma of mango, peach, pears, pine needles, onion and spices. Sweet with a good balance of fruity and malty flavors’ slightly "green", mango, piney, dry finish, long bitter aftertaste. Medium-bodied, creamy texture. Great IPA.

Bottle from Geers @ home. Apperance is orange, blonde. Aroma: not impressive, lemon, fruit, hoppy. Taste: very very dry. Totally not what I was expecting. Mixe of Orval and some generic IPA. Maybe I drank it too old.
