Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

On tap at The Local in San Diego. Clear bronze, dense cream head generating thick lace. Very fresh aroma of tangerines and lychee. Medium sweet malt supports a much more resinous hop profile than the aroma hints at-- all citrus oil and pine. Finish is very bitter and long. Delicious.

Clear and bright golden. Awesome aroma - fresh, hoppy and yeasty. Smoothly carbonated. Great malt flavors - chewy-sweet cookie dough. Nice balance and sharply tasty.

Thanks to Numenor for getting stiffed on a trade and getting this instead. Slightly hazy dark amber body. Sweet mild citrus hops aroma with some caramel in the background. Sweet citrus hops flavor, some hints of floral hops, and a caramel end.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, citrus, grapefruit, hop oil, slight dish soap, and lots of pine. Poured amber/gold in color with a medium-sized, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Very good to excellent lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and lightly sweet. Tastes of hops, citrus, grapefruit, pine, slight bubblegum, slight dish soap, pale malts, resin, and some toasting. Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, hoppy, slightly soapy, grapefruit and pine finish is lightly dry.

Deep golden color, leaving off-white lacing. Potent hop estery aromas are mostly grassy. Body is heavy. Solid.

Copper, with a nice sturdy head. Earthy, bourbon and caramel aroma. Resiny hops dominate, and there is a nice play between bitter and subtle sweet flavors. Woodsy flavor, and also some toffee flavors through to the finish. Powerfully hoppy, but also brewed with finesse. Nice. Sampled at 2004 Southeastern Ratebeer Gathering, Atlanta.

A decent IPA, not my favorites but a very good outing. Golden-amber body, with some nice citrusy grapefruit aroma. Too heavy on the cascade though. Very sweet, and not enough malt to balance out the over hopped taste. Slightly astringent and piney, but good, easy to drink, just glad I got to try it.

Bottle provided by Odeed, Thanks Jake! Nose was hops, hops, and more hops, along with a citrus hint; Golden color with a good off-white head. Flavor of hops and more hops without being overly bitter, and a little caramel. Almost as good as Hopsicle
