Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottle. Pours a clear light orange with a thick foamy white head. Aroma of tons of citrus, some lime, grapefruit, tropical fruit, and caramel malt. Heavenly. Flavor is nice and citrusy, sweet at first with a tinge of bitter hops in the finish. Quite tasty! 9/4/8/4/15 (4.0/5)

Really drinkable. Good flavors and right amount of bitterness. I wish I could get this all the time. Has some fruit and juicyness to balance out the bitter hops. Crisp and refreshing. Malts aid in body and citrus adds to complexity.

(11/11/08) Bottle at friends’ house in Philadelphia. Slightly hazy amber color with a big stable off-white head. Hoppy aroma with pine, resin, floral notes, grapefruit, some caramel and light cookie notes. Bitter hoppy flavor with grapefruit, some piney notes and some balancing malty, caramelly, sweetness. Medium-bodied and a nice smooth mouthfeel. A very good IPA.

Got this in a trade with DarkElf. Certainly up there as one of the best IPA I’ve ever had. Pours a medium light copper with an off white head. Aroma is pure HOPS, very floral. Taste is deliciously hoppy with tons of grapefruit/citrus, vanilla, pine and great malt backing. Perfect sweetness and nice bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy. The flavors just dance all over your tongue. Great lacing and head retention. IPAs just don’t get any better than this! I just may move to San Diego for this brew.

Bottle. Pours a nice glowing deep orange color with a light tan head. Aroma has a caramelized grapefruit tone to it and overall is real earthy and grassy. Nice sticky palate. Grassy hop kick to start, great malt base underneath, strong, almost peppery finish. The finish lingers nicely and the alcohol isn’t too apparent. Damn tasty.

22 oz bomber from adrian910ss, thanks Adrian. Pours a slightly hazy orangey amber with an average size frothy white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee and slight grapefruit. Medium bodied that leaves a creamy mouthfeel and finishes slightly bitter. Flavor is alcohol, malts, bread and slight citrus hops. This is like the fifth IPA I have had in the last few weeks that has passed it’s prime. The hops in this beer faded quicker then Rudy Guiliani’s presidential possibilities.

Thanks Rencelas! This beer pours a cloudy light caramel color with a large beige head that has great retention. It leaves a soft sticky lacing. Aroma is floral, pine, and caramel. Lots of nice hops. Flavor is so well balanced! Sweet caramel is evened out by a delightful assortment of hops. Nice spices. It is a flawless beer that offers so much. A wonderful IPA deserving of its 100% ranking.
