COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

22 oz bottle. Served in a snifter. Pours a deep honey color with a two-finger head. Floral and citrus aromas upfront. In regards to taste, the surprise here is the balance. To call an IPA "smooth" may be odd, but it’s the most accurate descriptor I can think of in this case. The hop presence is there, but it isn’t overbearing and doesn’t linger. Floral finish. This IPA would accompany many foods well, as I imagine it would bring out flavors, not dominate them.

Thick white head. Grapefruit, mango, pine hop aromas. Mild biscuity aroma. Flavor is boozy and hoppy. Grapefruit and more malt character than most west coast IPAs. ---Rated via iPhone

Bottle from Beergium.com. Amber, slightly hazy body, with a big, creamy, white head, that leaves a ring-shaped lacing. Aroma of pine, resin, grapefruit, candy. Taste is strong resiny, piney and dry, also with grapefruit, grass, earth, balanced by sweet, honey and candy like malts. Mouthfeel is medium, oily, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes bitter, dry and slightly alcohol warming, with pine, resin and grapefruit. If you love piney and resiny IPAs, this is just perfect and the best I know! I’m a fan of IPAs with more fruit notes, so this isn’t my favourite. But surely an incredible, unique beer, with a perfect balance of piney hops and complex malt notes.

Bottle. Over carbonated! Lost some really good drops. Pours hazy dark orange, foamy beige one finger thick head. Aroma is fresh pine, sweet fruits and grape. Hints of malt and caramel. Taste is medium sweet and resin-like. Smooth mouth and long bitter dry and minty on the tounge.

Bottle. Light copper color. This is what I imagine a perfectly done IPA. The malt profile isn’t too strong, but enough to compliment the beautiful hops. A+

Bottle from San Francisco. Nice sweet aroma with a touch of citrus. Looks like a good ipa should, nice moutfeel with good bitterness and carbonation. A fantastic ipa.

Bottle from Dranken Geers. Orange/amber colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Very complex nose of tropical fruit, grapefruit and bitter hops. Light sweet with bitter finish. Easy drinkable. This is a winner!

Near perfect IPA. I’m liking the California style. Soft, smooth mellow hoppiness, slippery body, creamy mouthfeel. Light amber with small silky head. Soft citrus. pine nose, taste is more pine, but not astringent. Goes down smooth, with some lingering bitterness. Wonderful!

Thanks to Rian for sharing! Bottled 17.2.2014. Very smooth and hoppy beginning. Fresh resin and pine at the beginning. Not too sweet. Easy to drink for 7,25%. Very floral in the nose, fresh hoppy and smooth. On the tongue remains a fresh hoppy aroma with a slight sweetness.
Very nice! 12/12/13/13
