COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Big thanks to DosBeerigos for sharing this one. The more and more I taste IPA’s the more I’m attracted to them. This one is has everything that I look for in a good IPA, a good hoppy aroma with subtle hints of spice. It starts off nice and sweet and finishes bitter with a cool tingle on the lower part of the jaw.

Bottle from brewolf...thanks Michael! - Pours clear amber with a massive foamy white head. Aroma is malty sweetness colliding with some citrusy, grassy hops, a little licorice, and some light, mild spiciness. Taste is lightly sweet malt with some bitter, grassy hops that intensify all the way through the finish. Unfortunately, it’s just not my favorite hop profile. It has a wonderful mouthfeel, smooth and velvety in the mouth, with the bitter resin coating the cheeks. It just sits there, drying your mouth out pleasantly, but leaving behind a nasty aftertaste. I guess I liked the subtlety of the Anvil ESB better, but this was a decent IPA as well--just not as great as I was expecting.

Same bottle as picture, sadly I was hoping for more. but this one wasnt a bad one. It just seemed too bitter for the mix of malts. It wasnt a smooth flowing beer. it was good but I thought it might be amazing. The aroma was a nice one. The only taste was the hops and bitterness. It was a pine smell but also citrusy too.

Drank a bomber from San Diego friends. Nice lacing white head and good aroma of pine resin and citrus with some malt. Taste was a little disappointing for there was more malt than expected, although a very balanced beer! I’d love to try it on tap though.

Nice golden yellow hazy pour with a wispy white head. Aroma more floral than citrusy, even somewhat like rose petals. Taste is hoppy and bitter, slight citrus but not overwhelming. Finish is bitter with medium duration. Quaff Score 7 / 10

GABF 2011. Clear brilliant gold, smooth small white head. Brilliant citrus hop aroma, with some pine resin and caramalt. Nice hoppy flavor, but a little "green". Imbalances toward bitter with pine and grassy floral tones, not much sweetness.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2011 ReRate # 2-im really bringing this one down. this beer could be the most over-rated beer i have had in a long time. since my last rating, my palate has become much more sensitive to off flavors and body. this beer has a very catty nose, almost like smelling cat piss in a hot old house. Flavors are catty as well with lots of tropical notes but has a green apple type flavor as well. seems like the beer is not very well put together. wow how my palate has changed. the palate is terribly astringent with a palate ripping carbonation. maybe this beer is old? i dropped my score down almost a whole point! ReRate-im going to bump up the score on this one. I got to sample a bomber for myself last night and it was a wonderful experience. all the stuff below is correct. What i didn’t emphasize was the balance of this brew. the aroma is wonderful as well. Alesmith knows how to make IPA’s thats for shure! 22 oz bomber-sampled with whaleman-pours a medium apricot/orange huge. small off white head. medium carbonation. Weak aroma for a west coast ipa, but reminded us of dreadnaught jr. citrus and pine through the palate, but in the finish, the pine wins. decent malt for this style hops are not as strong as i was expecting, especially for a left coast ipa.

22oz. bomber from the Dilly Deli in Cincinnati. I have had many steller IPAs and to put this one on top is not even close. There are so many great offerings out there that impress me and this one was just average. Maybe if I had a fresh one I would change my mind but it just didnt stack up. Nice floral nose but hops were subdued. This did have a nice sweetness with a smoothness to it that made it easy to drink but I have had better and rate this no more than average...
