Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

A little lighter in color than most IPAs, golden honey color with just a slight bit of amber, nice chunky off white head, very active and very good lacing. Huge citrus hops aroma, very fresh. Flavor is citrus dominated, very hoppy without being too bitter, nice resinous chewy hoppy mouthfeel, enough malt to stay very balanced and drinkable for an IPA, nice lingering dry hoppy finish. I could drink a whole bunch of these. Most beers this hyped seem to be a let down when finally consumed, but this is not. It isn’t my favorite IPA, but it is very close.

I had this in a 20 oz bottle. The smell is of grapefruit and pine hops. The color is a nice amber/red. The consistency is nice a thick for an ipa. The flavor is full and balanced. This would be a great session beer if it were available around here.

draft at stones 8th ann: nose of citrus snappy hops. fresh grass and dopamine. down the hatch gets some of the same hoppy like features the nose carries. some bitterness to the end of the crack from the hop in the grapefruit genre. a solid ipa.... had this last night again without being snookered at a beer festival and it was faaaantastic!!! right in the same class as my faves....stone and bear republic. this is a must have on hand whenever you feel like a REAL IPA!!

Not only one of the best IPAs I’ve ever had it’s one of the best beers. Every aspect brings a smile to my face. The pour is great, the hazy orange color with a pillowy beige head that stays. The piney citrusy hop aroma is lovely. The taste? Nothing short of terrific. Very balanced, hoppy, hoppy, and hops again. There’s just enough maltiness to keep it all in check. I’ve got to get more of this.

Lives up to its reputation. Love Hollingshead Deli. On-tap there. Wow [to both Hollingshead and Alesmith]. Darker amber color, with darker head. Great head retention. That [what i call] grassy and fruity IPA aroma. Sticky lace all the way down. Great hoppy finish. This goes up against my favorite, and local, Mineral King IPA. Will try to do a side by side comparison. This is great, and so is Hollingshead.

A wonderful West Coast IPA. Fresh, sticky, kind-bud hop aroma. Coppery amber, slightly cloudy pour with a bone white head over top it. Flavor is amazing. Wonderful sweet malt backbone with plenty of caramel sugar flavors in ite behind a monstrous Pine hop profile. Wish it came out here normally.
