4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 kempicus (355) - Bakewell, Derbyshire, ENGLAND - AUG 9, 2008
Tried thanks to Jason! Pours an orangey light brown with a lovely fluffy white head. Tangelo oranges on the nose, it has an amazing soft palate with a full body. Huge overstated flavours which are also balanced at the same time, it has hints of vanilla and oak with an extremely orangey finish almost like a Fullers 1845 on steroids. This beer is what I’d imagined an IPA in the 18th and 19th centuries would taste like….obviously more refined and not subject to a sea voyage…but an absolutely amazing beer!

UPDATED: FEB 28, 2008 This is the best IPA available in a bottle, in my experience. Extreme hops. An amazing experience for the true hophead. I really wish it was available in NM.
update to rating:
I was a little too excited when posting the above rave, and forgot to include much content. But what more needs to be said about this one? Here are some tasting notes anyway: Color is hazy gold, perfect frothy head, lots of little bubbles; aroma of flowers and citrus; this IPA hits your taste buds with a hops blast similar to stepping out of a warm house into an arctic windstorm; bitter citrus, lots of resiny effects that get your saliva glands going; long finish of fresh hops. Every time I travel out of state I look for Alesmith products and try to smuggle them home.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20 Nephilium (948) - Ohio, USA - MAY 20, 2007
This starts off with a strong citrus/pine aroma, with a hint of tannin underneath. It pours a slightly cloudy amber, with about a quarter of an inch of head that left great lacing. This has a wonderful bitter taste, with a bit of astringency in it and a nice long finish. This is simply an amazing IPA.

Bottle- thanks to Sickboy282. Awesome. The hype is huge on this one, but beer deserves the praise. Amber/orange in appearence, great head retention. Smells of pnws, but offers much more than many in the style. Very piney. The malt backbone is also great, and its complexity is what distinguishes this beer from many other west coast ipas. Wish I had more of these.

AleSmith IPA is at the top of the list when it comes to this hoppy west coast style IPA. A rush of piney and citrusy hop aroma sweeps over you when you crack open this bottle of real ale. As you pour into your glass the light amber nectar releases carbonation carrying the aroma of a fresh hop field to your nose as you anxiously wait for the white head to settle down to take your first sip. Intense hop flavor is balanced with a malty sweetness creating a symphony of flavors on the tongue with a dry finish. Hops are intense throughout the entire experience but no so much that you need a break between quaffs. Excellent presentation of the sinfully hoppy west coast IPA.
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 lalu (37) - Laval, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 23, 2011
Bomber.
Nice cirusy,piney nose.
Light amber color with a decent head that stays and laces the glass.
Medium maltyness,medium bitterness.
Body is round and oily but not overly, average carbonation.
bitter finish that is well balanced by the malt.
This is a prime example of the best that the west coast has to offer.
This IPA is assertive but not over the top.
One of the best ihave ever had.

Pretty much lives up to the hype. Has the aroma and taste of Ruination but without the over the top mouth feel. Really the standard for a single IPA hands down. In the end taste is everything and this one has it in spades.

Lovely hop aroma. Exactly how I would imagine an IPA to smell like. Hops of citrus, pine, and floral notes balanced beautifully with yeast and malts. Other notes include vanilla and also caramel (anyone else get that??). Appearance is perfect orange gold with a off white head that stays. Flavor is great, starts with the hops of citrus and pine flavors, then you get some malty and yeasty balancing. Mouthfeel is smooth and warm. Finishes dry and bitter. When drank with the head, gives it a nice creamy body. Yes, this is a freaking awesome beer. I will drink this all day and night and you should too.

bomber from south bay drugs poured into a pint glass. pours a very pure, clear golden color with hints of amber and a bright white, bubbly head and great lacing. aroma was probably the single best IPA aroma i’ve come across. huge floral hops come bursting from the glass with scents of tulips and roses backed by grapefruit, apricot, big pine, and hints of spice and slight sweetness. flavor was a near perfect balance of big, citrusy hops and a great, slighlty sweet malty background. flavors of pine, fresh flowers, sweet peach, and some vanilla evolve as the beer opens up. palate was velvety smooth, medium bodied, and slightly chewy. this beer seemed to jump all over my tougue and was simply delicious. nearly a perfect IPA in my opinion, and the best i’ve tasted.
