COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Nice color and citrus hop smell..... hit the spot. Not to much like a double but more than your typical IPA

Pretty excited to finally get this beer for my 450th rating; been looking to get my hands on this for over a year. Pours a deep copper with a full, fluffy head, slides down the side of the glass slowly to reveal excellent lacing. Aroma is not aggressive, but incredibly big and complex; lots of grapefruit, pine, biscuit, and massive shots of resin that hit you, reload, and hit you again. Flavor is similarly excellent, with an initial stage full of candied sugar, caramel malt, sweet citrus, and a bit of honey. This slips into a much more bitter and piney hop character, that was thick almost like sap, then moved to an intensely dry, resinous finish. A welcome tinge of alcohol mixes with the dryness at the finish. Absolutely world class IPA.

Light amber with a nice head, good retention... Huge hops, citrus, grapefruit, this is what an ipa should smell like.... Easy drinking, good flavor, nice hoppy flavor with a touch of malt to calm it down... Dry finish, lingering hops... Wow, amazing IPA, just as good as two hearted, racer 5, and blind pig...

Pours a yellowish golden orange with a sudsy white head which thins quickly. Aroma is grapefruit, honey, and floral hops. Flavor is honey, grapefruit, resiny hops. Nice and smooth at the finish, perfect bitterness. Similar to hopslam with a touch less sweetness. Nice IPA

Thanks to WeeheavySD for this bottle. So much bitterness and hoppy fruity goodness. I still don’t think that this is my favorite IPA (I maintain that two-hearted and masala mama are still better), it’s gotta be damn close.

The beer looks great, sticky head, perfect amber-gold color for an IPA. The aroma is very clean. Hops are citric, floral and piney. Caramel malt is present and well-articulated. The hop flavor is perfectly clean. There is some bitterness, but it’s extremely pleasant and doesn’t scald in the least. The malt is strong enough to bring out the flavors of the hops, without being cloying. It’s just extremely smooth. The citrus and floral hops balance very, very well with the malt. The mouthfeel is excellent, but there is a tiny bit of alcohol around the edges.

HOLY F&*$. What an IPA. The pour is bright orange with a two finger beige yellowish head. The aroma is amazing with a sweet caramel malt behind a thick and potent west coast hop. The taste is sweet and syrupy with a mildly sweet caramel malt in the middle with a slightly tropical fruity taste and a huge hop bomb on the finish. Fairly resinous and a huge grapefruity and citrus finish. Love this beer!
