AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2013 Re-Rate: ALESMITH COMES TO WISCONSIN!!! Cannot beat a hoppy bitter fresh (7/24/13 date is less than 3 weeks old!!) IPA!!! Thanks Alesmith!!Original rating: Bomber from Bottleworks from my PASS trip shared with ck1. Pours a pale orange with a white head great lacing - very nice look. Aroma has pine, citrus, resin - some tropical fruit further down in the glass. Taste is of resin, pine, bitter citrus, some fruit for sweetness; more and more bitter thru the glass. Smooth and bitter. Finishes bittersweet. Really, really good. Smooth and tasty. ck1 says 16/17.

On draft, Golden Crust, Red Lion, PA. From notes. 5oz flight glass. Pours clear golden/amber, nice off white head, nice lacing and retention. Aroma of grapefruit, lemon and herbs. Taste is bitter with just enough malt sweetness to balance. Medium body. medium carbonation, silky resin mouth feel. Finishes dry and bitter with notes of grapefruit, currants, black cherry and herbs. An excellent example of a west coast IPA! Outstanding !

Bottle from BD ShepBush, drank at home. Clear rich gold, off-white head fades to skin then ring/patches. Nose of orange, grapefruit, dank resin, hay, light caramel malt. Tastes lightish sweet cereal and a touch of toffee, pretty big clean bitterness, bitter orange, grapefruit, resin, floral, some slight green dank notes, finishing dry and bitter. Medium oily body, medium carbonation, slightly sharp. Really good.

Crisp, clean pour, finger white head, Notes of peaches, Caramel apples, pears, even gummy bears, climbing bitterness that finishes clean and crisp yet lingers a little, very fresh bottle. Slight bitter tank-like resinous mouth feel ,so whatever happened to irie pirate ale??

This is the way all IPAs should taste. Heavy hops, pine and fruit, bitter and refreshing. High quality and the strength I look for in taste, palate, and aroma. Bomber bottle in socal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Barwa jasnobursztynowa, klarowne. Duże wysycenie. Piana wysoka, średnio i drobno pęcherzykowa, długa i pięknie zdobiąca szkło. W smaku uderzenie lychee i cukierków prawoślazowych. Goryczka średnia, przyjemna.

Bottle; shared with Reakt at the Moncada brewery; Saturday 20th December 2014. A really nice head and benchmark IPA image on the colour. The beer is well-carbonated and aroma is of hey and tropical fruits and good yeasty doughness. The taste is oxidised but still the banging fruity notes you want from a West Coast IPA. Unfortunately it was a bit cheesy and very bready on the texture. A nice dry and long finish which was fruity. Very drinkable and I enjoyed this one.

Just two months old from its bottling date, loads of west coast hops, and that sherbet hint that the best IPA s give. More of a malt backbone than some IPAs, but still a lovely dry finish.

On tap at Mission Dolores, Brooklyn. Pours a clear honey golden color with a big frothy beige head. Aroma is grapefruit, orange, very floral, resin. Very fresh smelling beer. Amazing. Flavor is hop forward, lots of grapefruit, and orange. Decent biscuit malt backbone that’s noticeable. Good balance. Nice carbonation. One of the best IPAs I’ve had.
