COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

650ml Bottle from Bevmo. This is rating #100. Pours a a deep rich, slightly cloudy, copper color with a big off-white sudsy head. Plenty of lacing and long retention in the head. Aroma is very strong and is dominated by grapefruit, lemons, sugar cane and hops. Flavor was a bit subtle and subdued compared to many IPA’s that I’ve sampled. The taste experience starts with dry hazelnuts and walnuts in the forefront, oranges, pine and grapefruit fill in the edges, and biter hops and clean malts bring up the rear. Mouthfeel was robust, full and creamy, carbonation was ample and prickly. The finish was long with biter hops and sweet malts. Overall: every sip left me wanting another bigger sip, needless to say this beer went down fast. This is one truly great IPA.

Bottle pour clear yellow with orange hues. Nose of tropical fruit, pine and resin. Taste grapefruit bitterness, floral and rein hops, then huge bitterness. Balanced by sweet malt mid palate, and butt resinous finish. Great west coast IPA.

Pours transparent golden orange with a thick orange white head. The nose is a perfect balance of grapefruit, orange, pine and tropical fruit. The taste is high bitter and medium high sweet damn near perfect balance. The texture is crisp and clean, body is medium and finish is long. Bomber for less than $5 makes this the best you can get. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle through trade, nice pale orange color with a bit of white head. Aroma of citrus/grapefruit, resin and some light caramel. Taste is very earthy and resinous hops, some light sweetness in the finish, super smooth bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Should be enjoyed at correct temperature. Color is a little cloudy copper with good lacing and foaminess. Outstanding nose of sweet earthy grapefruit. Taste a little flat at first due to improper serving temperature. Although serving temperature range is tight, excellent when correct.

My first offering from Alesmith (finally!) and maan lemmie tell ya. If this is any clue of the quality of their other beers then holy moley! Poured from a 22oz into a Heretic pint glass. First glance: golden light, mostly clear maybe a tad bit of hop haze..Aroma: Tropical fruit galore, Apricot, Peach..a lil grassy note..Taste: Dank! wow..everything you dreamed an IPA should be. Very drinkable. San Diego here I come!!

Merci Louis! (552-030113)

Not sure why I haven’t rated this. Nothing great here. I never order it and it is always available. Taste is way too malty and always seems old.
