COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

Deep clear chestnut pour thin soapy beige head decent sticky lacing ... aroma is of roasted, chocolate and caramel malts with a nice nutty aroma as well .... taste of roasted malts, light coffee flavor, caramel malts, chocolate, light sugar with a nice nutty earthyness that flows to a light bitter bite .... finishes with a dry nutty/roasted goodness and some lingering bitterness .... great flavor profile really enjoyed this one

Draft @ Downtown Johnny Brown’s. Pours clear medium brown color with tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some nuttiness. Sweet toasted malt flavor with chocolate and nuttiness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. An excellent brown ale.

Draft. Pours brown with an off white head. Nutty sweet aroma, with some lightly roasted malts. The flavor is nutty sweet with a hint of cocoa powder and some light roast. Good stuff.

On tap. I remember the days of this being in the top 3 brown ales on the site. It still stands strong today. Super dry, mild biscuit, baking soda, bay, a touch of roast. Very much like an English dark mild. Fantastic.

On draft at Bru. Pours a dark brown with little head. Smokey nutty flavor, coffee, malts, not watered down like New Castle. Smokey with a bit of hops, very good summer beer, easy drinker!

On tap: pour is murky brown with Amber highlights, a terrific fine bubbled khaki head in this glass. Sticky lacing, nice retention. The nose is subdued, but nice. Cocoa, grain, hazelnuts... The flavor profile has nice feeling balance, ofcocoa, nuttiness, roast, with a fairly silky mouthfeel. Nice brown here

The nose is the weakest link to this outstanding beer. Smells of malt & coffee. Appearance is a beautiful dark brown, difficult to see through. Taste is rich coffee, roasted nuts, & malt - savory notes as well. The palate is awesome and long lasting.

Draught at Whole Foods Devon: Aroma of malt, light toasting, nuts, chocolate, and some dust. Poured very dark orange/brown in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear. Not sparkling. Good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of malt, nuts, and hints of chocolate and caramel. Medium body. Lightly tingly, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt and nut finish.

Pours a clear chestnut color with a medium creamy tan head...lively with nice retention. Nice nutty, roasty aroma with hints of autumn leaves and a bit of sweetness. Flavor follows suit with a nice hoppiness...earthy and well balanced...good nuttiness. Moutnfeel is medium and the finish has a nice dry roastiness.

On tap at Whole Foods. Pours dark brown with light tan foamy head. Nut, toast, caramel. Low bitterness. Moderate sweetness. Light, smooth, creamy body. A bit underwhelming.
