stefanje (543), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jan 16, 2008 Pint glass on tap at the Liars Club in Alpine. Poured a dark brown color with a small dense white head that lasted a only a short while. The aroma was medium-light in strength, and had notes of sweet roasted malts, anise and walnuts. The flavor featured more walnuts, dates, black licorice and a touch brown sugar. The mouthfeel was very very full, this is a malt lovers dream. The finish was short and bittersweet. Overall: A good beer for malt lovers. Recommended.
chrisafari (77), Orange, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours dark brown, almost opaque, with a nice thin tan head. Aroma is roasted nuts/malt. Flavor begins sweet and then becomes roasty and carmelly sweet. Flavors of crisp malt and cocoa dominate the palate. By far the best Brown ale out there. JMFG (1117), Florida, USA Aug 17, 2008 On tap @ Alesmith, RBSG. Dark amber color, moderately thick 1 cm head. Nutty aroma backed by earthy hops. Lightly hoppy, nice toasted malt finish. Light carbonation. A very nice brown, touched by enough hops to keep it from being boring. enginaaron (63), San Diego, California, USA Aug 12, 2008 On tap at AleSmith Brewing Co. Fresh aroma with slight chocolate but mostly a bittersweet brown aroma. Sweet taste with low hoppiness, slight astringency. Mildly sharp on the palate with good carbonation. Overall very good and a very tasty low alcohol drink. jasonp (1440), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 9, 2008 Sampled on tap at Alesmith - RBSG ’08, thanks Peter! Pours clear brown with an off-white head. Nice nose of caramel, biscuit, mocha and a tinge of roastiness. Nice brown ale, drinkable and tasty. Notes of mocha, caramel, earth, moderately sweet/moderately bitter - lightly resinous at the very end. Medium, round and creamy with moderate carbonation. Nice beer. maniac (1956), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 9, 2008 On tap At O’Brien’s in San Diego on 08/01/2008 on the RBSG Friday Pub Crawl.
