COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers’ Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

My wife’s love of this beer may have skewed the rating. A very potent brown ale, almost smokey like a porter. The malty flavor I would have expected is definitely not prominent. Overall a good beer.

I am not a big fan of this type of beer, a friend brought it over to sample. It was, especially for the price it sells for decent. Good to sample it, now I know for sure it isn’t for my taste. But fine to wash down mouthfuls of pizza. But their bottle of Speedway we had was delics ’-)

22 oz Bottle share with son-in-law on 12 March 2014. Poured into tumblers during a pleasant early evening session on his balcony. Good looking brew, dark brown with full tan coloured blanket of foam on top. The malts dominate both the aroma and taste, with mild chocolate and coffee flavours vying for notice along with nutty undertones. A caramel style sweetness arrives as the beer warms a little in the glass. This is not a really sweet Brown but it does not have much bitterness to temper the roasted malt flavours either. I enjoyed it.

Amber coloured and hazy. Has an off-white head, lasting. Sweet aroma, fruity and yeasty. Nutty flavor, sweet, a bit astringent. Sparkling.

Bit yeasty aroma, but also maltu and roasted notes. Round tast, very smooth. Could drink thiss all winter. Loved it. Good English beer, but made by Americans that is a bonus and minus in the same time.
