AleSmith Nut Brown is a tribute to one of our favorite British styles. Deep mahogany in color, its rich, malt-forward flavor profile balances notes of biscuit, mild cocoa and earthy hops. A creamy mouthfeel and full body enhances its drinkability, making Nut Brown an extremely sessionable ale that embodies our commitment to quality.

Pours pitch black with a nice white head and good lacing. Aroma is chocolate malt, nuts, and toast. The taste is nutty, slightly dry and sweet. Very balanced. Not too rich, not too thin, just about perfect. Delicious!

bottle @ Jungle Jim’s / Eastgate OH --- Clear mahogany brown color, Over-anxious four finger beige head that is slow to recede, heavy lace cobwebs. Taste is solid malt that becomes sweeter as it hits a medium carbonated swallow, adding nuts and chocolate before a lightly hopped finish. Well-balanced and complex. Huge brew for a 5% abv. Recommended.

Bottle at Studenterbaren. Dark brown body. Fruity aroma. Medium sweet taste with light bitterness. A bit on the thin side. Medium body with very fizzy carbonation. I had higher expectations for this simply because it comes from AleSmith. The carbonation almost ruined it for me - whenever I had a sip, it all turned to foam in my mouth. Not very drinkable.

Roasted, nutty, easy drinking; decent color and appearance. A good representation of the style and distinctive in its own way. (at 2015 Summer Beer Dabbler, St. Paul, MN)

Probably the most impressive to me of Alesmith’s standard IPA, XPA, ESB, and Nut Brown lineup. Really well executed use of malts to get a complex balance of grains, roastiness, biscuit, bread, faint chocolate, nuttiness, etc., that is exceedingly easy to drink but also has a good heft to it.

Bottled Mar. 2014. Supposedly doesn’t improve with age, but doesn’t feel like it degraded either. Great aroma: caramel, nuts (yes!), toffee, hints of coffee. Light, but not watery. Velvety mouthfeel. Moderate lingering bitterness, just enough. Very good, will be a new benchmark for the style for me.

Bottle at The London Craft Beer Festival. Pours a clear chestnut brown colour with a fizzy tan head. Aroma of toasty malts, nuts, caramel, slight vanilla, subtle toffee, and some spicy, earthy hops. Taste of toasty, roasted malts, nuts, caramel, some vanilla fudge and slight earthy hops. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A bittersweet, toffee, nut, slight earthy hop bitterness in the finish. Such a smooth, malty beer with a nice earthy bitterness to balance it out. The best American brown ale I’ve had so far.
