On tap. Flavor is thick and malty with light roasted notes. Not a lot of nuttiness really. Slightly creamy finish. Slightly sweet. Not bad, but not exceptional.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A deep brown pour with a medium to thin fizzy head that gives you a good idea of the mouthfeel (runny, carbonation on the moderate side). Aroma is candied peanuts, cocoa, Vollkornbrot, toffee-ish dark malts, and the most subdued earthy hops. Taste defined by low bitterness that segues into a sweet, gentle finish, with fading flavors of milk chocolate, brown bread, nuts, caramel, and earth. Lots of taste for such a sessionable beer, and a notch beyond other standard brown ales.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Shared bombers poured to wine glasses for sampling at the Binny’s of Glen Ellyn, IL. California Love Tasting. Showed a clear, brownish gold color, with a frothy layer of light tan head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was toasted, nutty, and woody, with touches of baker’s cocoa, and caramel. Light to medium bodied, with decent effervescence, the taste added an earthy bitterness, and finished crisply dry. A tasty, no nonsense Brown Ale.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a dark ruddy brown color with a one finger off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute and a half but even after dissipation it still left a nice looking concave to valley-like looking cap of a wake of a head. Lacing moderately streamed itself around the glass.
The smell started with some sweet and roasty nuts and entered into some nice light cocoa and coffee bitterness.
The taste was moderately sweet through the nuts and the cocoa allowing to blend into the full flavor. There’s a slight lingering semi-sweet to roasty maltiness running into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a really nice sessionability about it. Carbonation runs pretty light.
Overall, as an English-styled brown ale, Alesmith did exactly what they wanted to with this one.
