Our 2013 Great American Beer Festival gold-medal winner, Old Numbskull, has been aging in premium Brandy barrels for the past year to develop its rich and intense flavor profile. The result is an amazingly complex beer that balances the caramel and toasted malt character of Old Numbskull with notes of plum, honey, and oak from the barrel aging process.

Enjoyed at an all barley wine tasting at Travis’s house on February 21. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a brown-ish copper color with a thin ring of off-white head and no lace. The nose is beautiful. Caramel flavored brandy with an amazing fruitiness and wonderful vanilla and oak. The flavor mimics this. It’s not overly complex, but it’s really good. The components it has are well done. It offers a different tone to most of the bourbon barrel offerings of the night. The hops have all but disappeared. The mouth feel is thinner than I thought it would be. It’s got a soft carbonation and a lingeringly sweet caramel aftertaste

I some how aquired this one and i cant remeber how. Anyway, this pours an amber brown capped by a silky looking light tan head. Nose has notes of brandy, Solid sweetness comes from caramel and brandy, some light vanilla too. Full body.

Dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, brandy, dried fruits, resin and light vanilla notes. Taste is sweet sticky caramel, dried fruits, hints of alcohol, light piney bitterness. Finish is warming alcohol, resin, caramel and vanilla. Medium to full bodied, sticky oily texture, soft carbonation.

750 ml bottle courtesy of hackobock. Pours murky reddish brown with a small beige head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and fruity with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, raisins, prunes, dates, resin, moist soil and brandy alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and fruity. Mouthfeel is round, sticky, oily, boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, raisins, dates, dried cherries, resinous wood, moist soil and brandy alcohol. Heavier on the dried dark fruits most likely due to the brandy barrel treatment. Bit hot but very nice!

Bottle @ ZEBF 2015. A lot better than the normal one. The brandy ba has more body and more depth. Notes of raisin, grape and a little caramel. Tasty beer.

Bottle, 06/12/2015. Pours a dark chestnut brown color, off-white head fades relatively quickly leaving a spotty haze on the surface. Aroma of plum, dark fruit, resinous honey, raisins and brandy, somewhat earthy caramel, touch of roast lurking in the background. Taste is raisins, fruity brandy, full rich dark malts and moderate sweet caramel, dark chocolate adds a bit of bitterness near the finish, lingering heat. Thick, chewy body. Wow, brandy on prominent display here, quite different from the bourbon and rye versions. Enjoyed this one.

Bottle split at the sleepy-rapping tasting at Ronny & Alex’s pad, CBC fine tuner, 30/04/15. Lightly hazed chestnut brown with a decent tan covering. Nose is rich brandy fumes, spice, toffee, malt, light cocoa, earthy fruit notes. Taste comprises subtle BA wood tones, apple brandy, light spice, caramel, dark fruit strands. Medium + body, fine carbonation, light warming booze in the close. Solid Brandy BA affair, brandy noted but in check, drinks well below the ABV. Winner!

Bigger tasting at Ronny’s flat, Copenhagen. Hazy deep amber beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and smooth and semi dry. Caramel malts. Mild spice. Nice mellow brandy blends well with the dried fruits. Light semi dry finish. Good stuff.
