COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our 2013 Great American Beer Festival gold-medal winner, Old Numbskull, has been aging in premium Brandy barrels for the past year to develop its rich and intense flavor profile. The result is an amazingly complex beer that balances the caramel and toasted malt character of Old Numbskull with notes of plum, honey, and oak from the barrel aging process.

This poured a medium brown with a minimal beige head. Aroma was of vanilla, hops, dark fruits, caramel and light booze. Flavor similar, lightly hot, nice oakum barrel character, citrusy hop character, dark fruits and laden caramel. Pretty good stuff.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark amber / mahogany with a small white head. Nose is quite boozy, with huge brandy notes, with alcohol, oak and dark fruits. Flavour is along the same lines, with loads of brandy, oak and alcohol upfront, followed by toffee and dark fruits. Quite hot, but in a tasteful way. Complex and well-rounded. Excellent.

Bottle - Vintage 2013 - Nice light barrel notes, sweet caramel and butterscotch notes. Clear copper with a decent light beige head. Lighter on the body than expected. Caramel, boozy but nice Woody notes. Nice.

Bottle at the March Libertine Bottle Share. Pours a copper/brown/slightly red color with slight tan head. Aroma is chocolate, toffee and some booze I can’t totally identify. Taste is sweeter than the bourbon barrel tried side by side. Some jam and spirit in there but not as overly liquor forward as the bourbon. I’m not even sure what good brandy tastes like since my only experience with it was the cheap stuff my grandma drank. When we bought her good stuff for Christmas one year as a gift it tasted nothing like the cheap stuff but I’ve since forgotten that flavor profile.

>> Thanks Bobby for the gift :) Murky brown/ black tea pour, good yellowish foam. Nose is rich barrel, dark cherry, mild oxidation, orange marmalade...as it warms thick brandy, grappa. Taste is brown sugar, toffee, bitter peanut brittle, salted caramel, orange mint. Palate is fairly balanced, medium bodied, not boozy, not a lot of balancing hops or body to move the flavors out of the "sweet" realm and into something more diverse.

Pours a deep brownish copper from the bottle with thin ring of off-white head that leaves light lace. Aroma of big sweetness and vanilla, nice barrel character. Taste follows, hops all gone, sweet and nice vanilla oak. Damn, very nice, booze incredibly well hidden.

Bottle... Pours hazy and caramel-colored with burnt-orange highlights and a fleeting, white head. The aroma is a fusion of caramel and brandy, which synergistically creates tantalizing components of vanilla and sherry-soaked fruitcake. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with airy carbonation. The flavor presents gooey caramel layered upon less significant, fruity, boozy and sweet notes accompanied by a hint of tanginess. Smooth, lasting liquor warmth in the finish.
