Our 2013 Great American Beer Festival gold-medal winner, Old Numbskull, has been aging in premium Brandy barrels for the past year to develop its rich and intense flavor profile. The result is an amazingly complex beer that balances the caramel and toasted malt character of Old Numbskull with notes of plum, honey, and oak from the barrel aging process.

Bottle shared by slowrunner77 in Reno pour lightly hazy copper mahogany brown with moderate ecru head. Nose boozy red fruit, caramel, toffee. Taste big flavors up front, toffee, raisin, caramel, and late red wine. Still some strong tannin. Thick mouth feel. Finshes with light bitter mixing with toffee.

bottle shared by a friend. 2013 version. poured a murky dark caramel brown colour with a non lasting tanned ring on top. nose has a lot of sticky toffee, caramel malts, butterscotch, oak, clear fruity brandy notes, brown sugar, caramel covered apples, figs. taste is still a bit hot, even for the 2013 version. i think it has improved compared to a fresh version. sticky full mouthfeel.

750ml bottle of 2015 release. Pours a copper color with a bit of head. Brandy flavor dominates and a little hot. Could do with some more time in the bottle.

Draft. Pours deep amber-isn brownish with an off white head. Sweet malty base, raisin and other dark fruity notes, a bit of booze, bread, and rum cake. Good stuff; a bit boozy but otherwise pretty drinkable.

750ml bottle pours with a murky deep mahogany colored body that supports a light tan head. The aroma offers up molasses, toffee, sweetened cherry, brown sugar and then muted sweetened pine hops and full on yum. The taste is rich and deep and luscious, wow! I get molasses, toffee, brown sugar and deep dark ripe cherry richness. To midway it gets into sweetened pine hops and more cherry mixed with booze and Brandy. This is such a great sipper.

Great barley wine. Best of the best. The beginning has traces of floral burnt cherries and molasses. Yes drink it between 50 and 55 degrees so the flavor profile comes to life. The finish has a dark robust mild citrus flavor. COMPLEX to say the least. Great job San Diego brothers.

Tap at the brewery. Pours hazy brown with a small, fizzy beige head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is Brandy, oak, cookie malt, alcohol, dates, figs and vanilla. Flavor is sweet cookie malt, alcohol, Brandy, oak, vanilla, lightly tart fruits and a sweet finish. Full body and light carbonation.

2013 vintage shared tonight at the Christmas Party. Deep reddish brown color with a smallish off white head, Fruity brown sugary maltiness with hints of earth and bits of vanilla oak and ethanol. Still seems a little hot but still a nice sipper!

Enjoyed at an all barley wine tasting at Travisís house on February 21. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a brown-ish copper color with a thin ring of off-white head and no lace. The nose is beautiful. Caramel flavored brandy with an amazing fruitiness and wonderful vanilla and oak. The flavor mimics this. Itís not overly complex, but itís really good. The components it has are well done. It offers a different tone to most of the bourbon barrel offerings of the night. The hops have all but disappeared. The mouth feel is thinner than I thought it would be. Itís got a soft carbonation and a lingeringly sweet caramel aftertaste
