Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine-style ale alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. Old Numbskull can be enjoyed now or laid down for years to come.

Brilliant color.. Very unfiltered brown caramel color with a dark cream colored head. The smell is slightly alcoholic & malty. Definitely blended perfectly between the malts/hoppyness/alcohol. Carmel notes, molasses & brown sugar taste. Slight hints of bruised cherry & under-ripe pear. Well aged. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark copper pour with a cream colored head. Tons of lacing. Strong caramel aroma with earthy hops, burnt toast, and some dark fruit. Taste follows the nose but has boozy heat and metallic notes. Full chewy body.

On tap at Draft Bar on Mission Beach. Murky russet amber. I let it warm a while. Rich sugary malts. Earthy spice. Lots of layers. Mild bitter finish

Numbskull poured a deep brown-amber hued body, good carbonation with a thin white cap that left heavy laceing. Aroma was really nice lots of different fruit made an apperance pineapple, pear, cherry, citrus and alcohol. Flavors of chocolate, coffee at first and as it warmed the fruit flavors came into play, alcohol was noticeable throughout. Mouthfeel was thick and chewy, alcohol warms up the body some. Overall a very nice brew, cant wait to open my second one later. Originally rated on 10/13/08.

Aroma of plums, toffee and caramel, pours a hazy copper color. A great taste of fruit, caramel and malt, full body with a fermented fruit and booze finish.

Bottle from Spec’s. Deep dark mahogany with a milky cream colored head with light lacing. Aroma of fig, caramel, grass, white cake, and a hint of apple. Taste is sweet caramel and dark fruit and bread and a fair amount of bitterness. Alcohol is pretty well integrated, but there’s no doubt it’s there. Medium-full bodied and quite smooth. Nice.

750ml bottle. Dark amber body with a low head. Dried dark fruits, caramel, toffee, pine, biscuit. Hint of lactose towards finish. Noticable alcohol presence.

In the glass it has a dark coppery amber color with a beige, creamy and lasting foam. Roasted notes on the nose, cake, candy with fruity nuances and slightly milder hops and alcohol appreciated. In the mouth it is silky but dry, bitter aftertaste. Does not hide very well integrated alcohol which include shades of caramel, biscuit and some roasted towards the end.

This is a case of a beer, while good, not living up to the expectations at all. Sweet but not much molasses. Not my favorite by a bit.

Esters. Dates. Plums. Toffee. Pours a muddy murky dark tan with sediment floating in it and a light tan thin quickly fading head. Thick mouthfeel. Hard candy. Toffee. Fruit. Raisins. Dates. Very sweet with just a bit of bitterness on the finish. A little spice. A little booze.
