4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Cloudy caramel brown pour with a 2 finger, creamy khaki head that has great retention. Aroma is hug on toffee and caramel, sharp fruity esters and citrus hops, beyond that some nice toasty notes, bready yeast, molasses, licorice, fig, dark fruit and light sweet woody notes. Flavor is full of toffee, and toast up front, then some caramel/burnt sugar come in, then, nice raisiny dark fruit, earthy and citrusy hops, tree fruit, bread pudding and sweet, oily citrus notes to the finish. Creamy to oily feel on entry, chewy and creamy after that until the somewhat dry, ever so slightly astringent finish. Really good stuff, very smooth and inviting for such a full flavored, strong and young Barley Wine, the trade off is that it might not be as complex and interesting as some of it’s contemporaries. That’s not to say it’s one dimensional, by any means, and it is quite delicious, it just lacks a little depth, though it makes up for it by just being really tasty.

Couleur ambrée sombre, très légère mousse. Fort nez houblonné fruité exoxtique, note resineuse et sucrée. Fort gout houblonné résineux, fruits exotiques legerement confits, agrumes confites; orange, fruits jaunes, notes de reglisse, caramel, raisins et légères épices. Bon corps. Fin longue résineuse et fruitée. Intense et complexe, une nouvelle bombe de alesmith. On dirait une imperial ipa.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 75cl, a dark amber beer with good head. Nose is intense on exotic fruits and candied fruits / ripped fruits. Aroma is on his on hops resin, licorice, candied fruits, dry grapes, mango, mandarin, apricot, toffee, quite sweet, toasted caramel, quite bitter, good complexity. Body is a bit too sweet on my point of view, robust barley, long fruity aftertaste, vanilla hints.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s pre-GBBF 2015 Shindig, bought at Brewdog’s online shop. 2 or 3 years old. Colour is rusty red orange, white head. Nose is musty grain, sweet and sugary, barley sugar sweets, marmalade, orange peel, little spice, leather. Taste is marmlade, musty grain, orange peel, caramel, bitter citrous peel. It’s not too raw, but is soft and mellow. I’m getting a nice fug of warmth up the back of my head as I drink this. Rich soft, fruity and sweet, but not cloying at all. Very good barley wine.
