4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle, 2012! Pours da pitch wiv big, brown, bubbly, long lasting head. Aroma has .. here we go: Vanilla, chocolate, fresh coconut, dry oak, molasses, gasoline, semi roast, speedway coffee, toffee, caramel, dark, sweet, dried fruits. Taste has milk chocolate, sweet, sugary fruityness, again lots of coconut, some roast, coffee, sweet toffee, caramel, lots of bourbon, vanilla and so on. Actually no extraordinary flavors, but just a lot of coconut, and an excelent balance. Only thing to mention is a slightly sugary ending. Extremely smooth body and low carbonation.

"man...anything i criticize in this brew is nitpicking, but i am comparing it to the best of the best of the best. i can make a case that it is my favorite barreled stout, which is my favorite substyle as well, but i can make that case for BA Blackout, Abyss (certain years), Firestone 13...as well. bourbon slightly more prevelant than i though it would be, especially side by side with a 2009 "regular" speedway. that said, every sip gets better, and it’s great from the start...bourbon, chocolate, cofee, roastyness, and an ever so slight touch of hops. ridiculously smooth, like glass, though maybe thinner feeling than the base, though not to a fault. i definitely overpayed for this, but don’t regret it. definitely in the upper teir of barreled beers, impy stouts, and really all beers."

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle to glass. Thanks Dennis for sharing! Pours a pitch black color with a creamy brown head. Extraordinary aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, bourbon, oak, chocolate. Even better flavor with the same notes, lots of barrel-aged goodness with a fantastic roasted malt background. Creamy mouthfeel, long lingering bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. There’s a reason this consistently gets rated so highly. Unreal.

(bottle) black in colour with a frothy brown head. aroma of soy sauce, some vanilla and mango, with notes of hazelnuts, dark chocolate, fudge, cornflakes and a hint of alcohol. flavour is mostly fudge and alcohol, with lots of brown sugar, some light toasted malts, more hazelnuts and a medium toasted-bitter finish. heavy-bodied with average carbonation.

Another perfect brew from folks at Alesmith. Roast, toast biscut and bourbon nose and flavor. Loved the added dimension of the barrel aging. Some slight sherry character also added to its perfection.

Bottle@Craft Clerkenwell (RBESG 10/08/2014) - black coloured pour with tan head. Dark roasted malty aroma and taste, slight burned malty notes, with chocolate, treacle, caramel, vanilla, dark dried fruits, thick mouthfeel, bourbon wooden nuances throughout. Beautiful.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Make no mistake, this is a BIG beer. Pours black with a deep brown head. Aroma is heavy chocolate, coffee, and some burnt toast. Adding bourbon and oak aromas to the chocolate intensifies the aroma. Chocolate and coffee are still present but sharpness of the malts are subdued. Alcohol and bourbon take over. Think I’ll stay with the Vietnamese version.

Bottle shared at tasting. Big chocolate and creamy stout with light taste of cocoa throughout and some barrel age. Nice.
