22 feb 2013, bottle. Dark brown/black w almost red edges. Nose is huge sweet bourbon stout, big alcohol, winey. Wow. Med body and mildly fizzy. Thin oily finish. Burnt dry oatmeal, some coffee, granola, sugary maple syrup, moderate alcohol. Great! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Review #650. 750 ml bottle served in a CCB snifter. 2012 vintage A: Pours a very dark black color with a tan head forming on the pour. It recedes quickly to thin ring that leave some minor sploches of lace behind. S: Bourbon up fron couple with some figs and various dark fruit. Sweet barrel presence with some caraml and light vanilla. A little stone fruit sweetness with some roasted malts and chocolate. T: The barrel is upfront with some oak and smooth bourbon. Bakers chocolate and some milk chocolate with heavy roast. I’m missing the coffee flavors from this guy, but it’s still really good. M: Silky smooth mouthfeel, medium to heavy bodied. Medium carbonation level. O: This is definitely in the upper echelon of BA stouts. Having more coffee notes would have definitely set it apart. Still a very delicious brew that I’d love to have again. Serving type: bottle

2012 vintage poured into a tulip. Adam Jackson shares another top quality brew from his cellar with me. Opaque black in color with thin tan head. The head dissipates to a soapy ring. In the nose its nearly completely bourbon. DAMN, lots of whiskey. Taste is chocolate, oak, some strong bourbon notes. Mouthfeel is full with plenty of booziness. Soft carbonation. Overall this stout REALLY needs to sit and mellow. i feel we did a great injustice in drinking this so young. I’m still happy to have tried it but... if you have to trade for it, and most people will, I wouldn’t give up a lot because you can find other BA stouts that are just as great. I’m sure after some sitting this would be amazing.

Late 2012 Release. Enjoyed in a wine glass at room temp with Chris.

A - Poured a heavy oily black. Very big 3 finger espresso colored head that faded to nearly nothing

S - Nose is as expected. Not as boozy as BCBS but very much big on vanilla, dark chocolate and espresso beans with a hint of campfire.

T - Loads of boozy bourbon charred oak alcohol at the front. Middle is dominated by vanilla and toasted walnuts and caramel. Finish is all oak..just smokey and oaky and big. I get a hint of off-flavors like cheap candies and smoke but it’s not too bad.

M - Heavy body, swishable carbonation, nice and boozy and almost a champagne like finish with some stickiness of coffee beans.

O - This is a top 50 stout? It’s great and I’m going to rate it appropriately but I don’t see this as a HUGE whale of a stout on RateBeer. Drinkable, delicious but bourbon county is about 80% of what this is and far more accessible. If this was on the shelf next to BCBS, I’d grab it but it’s not worth the limited release and regional availability to seek it out.

750 ml bottle to oversized snifter (newest vintage, shared with the Mrs.; thanks darkmoon66). Looks good; black with foamy tan head that dissipates into lacing fairly quickly. Smells delicious; dark malt, chocolate, coffee, and bourbon with vanilla notes (likely from the barrel treatment). Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. This is world-class!

2012 vintage, poured from a bomber into a tulip. Pours opaque black with a small head, much smaller than the non BA version. Nose is bourbon, vanilla and coffee. Taste is sweeter than the non BA version, and follows the nose, with some coconut in there. Definitely less coffee-heavy than the non BA version. Great mouthfeel. Delicious.

Wow, What a smooth and easy drinking 12% beer. The barrel notes are soft and complimenting with notes of vanilla, light spice, dark fruits, and chocolate. The base beer is less robust and powerful then regular speedway which is a good thing. Everything about this beer from the aroma to the taste to the palate is smooth subtle and nice. Loved it.

2009 bottle. A nice scent of malts, roasted barley, vanilla, brown sugar, coffee, bourbon, yeast notes, and dark fruit. I taste roasted chocolate malts, a slight to mild bourbon, coffee, yeast notes, oak, and dark fruit. It has a minimal dryness that fades and leaves a malty finish. Overall this is tasty. A very relaxing brew.
