2012 release of bourbon barrel-aged speedway stout. Aroma is thick with bourbon notes followed by a dark coffee and chocolate richness. The appearance is as dark as beers come with a thick mocha head that retreated much more slowly than expected for a 12% stout. The taste is very complex. Vanilla is a strong flavor but far and away the bourbon and coffee flavors are the centerpiece of the beer. Overall I love this beer. Bring friends to share a bottle with if you manage to get your hands on a bottle. It is a rich, thick beer that is best enjoyed slowly as it warms.

Heavy smell of cocoa and dark coffee. The taste is dry, cocoa, coffee, sweetness, oak barrels and soy. Strong bitterness in the aftertaste that fills the mouth forever. As I have longed to taste this beer. High expectations I had too. And I was not disappointed. Celestial good beer. A beer you can sit for hours and enjoy.

(Bottle sample @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Mar 21 2015) Pours pitch black with a decent tan head and some lace. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, toasted coconut, raw sugar, dark bittersweet chocolate, some sweet black coffee. On the palate it is similar, heavily barrel influenced with wood and whiskey, coconut, cocoa and coffee grounds, fading into a woody, earthy, bitter chocolate/coffee finish with pervasive notes of bourbon lingering, touch of hops and faint but noticeable alcohol heat. Medium-full oily/creamy body with soft carbonation. Rich and unctuous, maybe a little heavy on the barrel characters vs. coffee, especially compared to the regular version, coming across a little sweeter and less bitter. Feels great in the mouth and not at all boozy. I really like this but will leave my bottle for a little while, think it will improve with a bit of time.

Shared a bottle with a friend. Black beer, medium brown head. Aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, juniper berries. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Sticky oily texture. Alcohol is noticeable. Great beer, great quality but I prefer the non barrel aged version.

Draft at the brewery. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy bubbly light brown head. Tastes like strong alcohol, slightly sweet and slightly astringent, woody, earthy, nutty roasted malt. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like booze, woody, earthy, and dark fruits.
