4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle from jenray- thanks, Jen! Long-time want. Pours an opaque midnight brown color with a thick, frothy tan head that settles slowly. Aroma of coffee, earth, dark fruits (plums, grapes, and apples?), vegetal notes, and dark chocolate. Initially it seems off but smooths into rich coffee and roast as it warms. The flavor, however, starts with intensely rich coffee and super bitter dark chocolate, and then smooths into something more drinkable as it warms. Like two completely different beers at 50 degrees and 65 degrees. Medium-bodied, with a roasty, smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. This may have been a 3.8 or so until I let it warm more. Even as it stands, this is my least favorite of the otherwise world class Speedway Stout lineup.

UPDATED: SEP 3, 2013 75cl, at 12%Vol, exclusive American brew, with coffee, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex Stout, roasted/bitter and slightly spicy/fruity, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, rocky head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Nose is chocolate, prune, molasses and coffee. Thick with a tang and some heat. Taste is dark chocolate, dark roast and burnt sugar. Develops more depth with espresso, fudge brownie and toasted coconut. A little bit too much coffee now.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Rating number 1100!!! Bottle from JohnnyJ, thanks Jonathan! Aroma has notes of roasted chocolate, rich roasted coffee, espresso, molasses, dark dried fruits and a hint of citrus hops. Fantastic aroma, best coffee imp stout aroma I’ve had. Black hue with a large mostly diminishing dark tan head that left great lace. Flavor is very sweet and very bitter. Palate is very full bodied and oily soft with a long very bitter finish. Overall an amazing beer that lives up to it’s reputation. Fantastic aroma and appearance, the best I’ve seen in a coffee imp stout. The taste is very good and the palate is almost perfect but the bitterness is a bit over the top. All in all a fantastic brew.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle @ a recent tasting... Poured pitch black with a mild forming, light brown head. Some retention. Crazy amount of coffee on this beast. More so than regular Speedway. Intense, concentrated coffee with mild coffee roast, bitterness, and acid. Dark grains, charred tones, toasted sweetness added more complexity to this awesome beer. Dark cocoa, mocha, and some alcohol booze in there. One to sip and savor.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle thanks to Bman1113vr (who really needs to visit Texas more often and bring beer like this). Black pour with a huge tan head. Nose is HUGE coffee, earth, not fusel at all (considering), incredible! The coffee notes on this beer are just off the chain. Very deep and complex nose. Flavor: coffee, coffeee, with some coffee notes and undertones of coffee, with earth and roast as well. Silky mouthfeel.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour is jet black, thick creamy dark caramel brown head. Nose is dominated by roasted coffee, not burnt, very clean. Lightly cooked caramel and some rich chocolate malt underneath. Taste follows suit with a bitter of the toasty bitter finish but it doesn’t linger. Very well balanced coffee centered flavor, bright flavors, a touch of citrus in the finish. Body is creamy and thick, assertive carbonation and a fairly dry finish. Well done coffee beer.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Opaque black pour with thick tan foam, very pretty. Aroma is a bit destabilizing. I was expecting a nice roasty coffee aroma, instead I get a really weird vegetal bomb like wet grass. After a couple of sniffs, things start to settle down and I perceive some chocolate/fudge and light, unroasted coffee notes. Still, the whole thing is a bit disturbing. Taste is more inline with what you’d expect from a coffee stout except this one was super bitter, lots of roasted coffee bitterness, acrid and somewhat unpleasant. Drinkable, but very difficult - I couldn’t tackle a 750 by myself, that’s for sure.
