COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kopi Luwak Speedway Stout is our award winning year round Speedway Stout with Kopi Luwak Coffee. Considered on of the world’s most expensive and rare coffee varieties, the beans are specifically selected for their ripeness and quality by the civet, a small jungle marsupial that feeds of the fruit of the coffee cherry. Expertly roasted by San Diego’s Ryan Bros. Cofee leads to an extremely aromatic and excetionally smooth final product that complements Speedway Stout exceptionally well! Good to the last Dropping!

750 ml bottle. An opaque pitch black beer, with a large, frothy, lacing, mostly lasting brown head. The aroma is heavily malty (very strong coffee, chocolate, caramel, roasted grain), with notes of licorice, alcohol, prunes/dark fruits, and a touch of vanilla. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, soft carbonation, very long finish with moderate bitterness, moderately alcoholic. Spectacular aroma, full of spicy, aromatic coffee and other nice aspects. Sweet taste, but less than expected. Surprisingly "thinner" and with a less creamy mouthfeel than the regular version and the booze feel is, in one word, perfect.

Bottle served right before the bourbon version.

A - Pours pitch black with a nice one finger tall tan head, dissipating down to a light film, leaving spotty trails of lace down the glass.

S - Smells of rich fresh brewed coffee, chocolate, dark roasted malt and not much else. This one is all about the coffee obviously so very little else comes through that dark veil.

T - Starts off with the strong fresh brewed espresso coffee kick that never really fades away. Hints of chocolate, vanilla, bit of smokiness and some dark roasted malt try and keep the coffee in check but they can only do so much. Finish is really roasted with a bit of dryness, lingering long after the finish.

M - Full feel with moderate carbonation. Big, roasty feel goes down surprisingly easy. Very little of the 12% is noticeable. It just wore me down quickly with all that coffee and not much else.

O - I love speedway and I have always wanted to try this. It is exactly what I imagined it would be with tons of in your face coffee flavor. I loved how it smelled and tasted but it did wear on me quickly, I could drink a glass at a time tops.

750ml bottle shared by Brad. Wow. Mellow, especially for the ABV. Choco-coffee aroma. Perfect mouthfeel, very impressive, completely perfect on the palate. Big coffee, refined molasses awesomeness. World Class coffee beer all the way.

750ml bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of strong coffee, a lot of roasted malts, some chocolate, a little dough, and some light bitterness. Flavor very, very strong of coffee with a good Imperial stout under it. Smooth texture. A great beer.

Bottle, shared by Matt -- Thanks! Start with Speedway, modified as follows: Coffee in aroma is the Kopi Luwak variety (c.f. Beer Geek Brunch Weasel); also some metallic notes, bakers chocolate, chalk. Full body, slick texture, the usual. Taste brings in some ash. Bitterness on the finish is far less than expected for how much coffee there is in this, but I guess that’s the hallmark of this variety of ethically questionable coffee.

Pours black with mocha head. Nose is rich coffee beans, vanilla beans, good creamy roast. Flavor is lots of rich fresh coffee, creamy vanilla, roasted malts., dry dark chocolate. Little bitterness and a short, creamy finish, pleasantly strong kick.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Pitch black center with deep brown edges, light-tan head on top that perches nicely and shows good retention. Aroma is surprisingly quiet at first; bit-time, strange coffee aromas. Not strange in a bad way, just very different... must be the Kopi Luwak beans. Heavy coffee, light acrid notes akin to grape or apple skins, underlying cocoa malt sweetness. Taste starts with a bitter roast, almost harsh - like burnt, used coffee grounds. Roasty, ashy, and induced with that unique Kopi flavor. The sweetness comes in softly with that strange sweetness from before; light apples and deep, dark licorice. Sweetness balances well in mid-palate, but the finish consists of mostly roast. Another very good Speedway beer, although this may be my least favorite variant to date.
