On tap at the brewery: The familiar, awesome strong coffee, dark chocolate Speedway with a hint of chicory, a full creamy mouthfeel and a lingering chicory/coffee bitter sweet finish..

Black pour. Nice brown head. Loads of creamy coffee, espresso, bitter chocolate and roasted malt. What a superb beer!
4.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 DocJitsu (334) - California, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Pours a very dark brown and opaque. Light taupe head that dissipates pretty quickly. Dark roast coffee, smoke, and a little cherry on the nose. Mouthfeel is creamy, viscous, and inviting. Coffee bean coated in thick milk chocolate flavor. My Lord how fun this this one? Magnificent!
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 dbarnold (1079) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - SEP 17, 2012
Excellent, super smooth version of speedway. Coffee is less bitter, very smooth with hazelnut and chocolate flavors. Aroma is fantastic. Goes down way too easy for the alcohol. It’s thick and rich and fantastically easy to drink a super huge beer.
4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 StefanSD (1805) - Lakeside, California, USA - NOV 11, 2012
Taster at the brewery. Pours a dense black color with a small tan head that slowly recedes to a ring. The aroma is all coffee--dark and rich. The taste is a coffee explosion. I get multi-layered well roasted coffee, dark bitter baking chocolate and some bitter walnuts. No real sweetness. The palate is full, smooth, creamy and a bit oily with soft carbonation. Finishes incredibly long and dry. Overall: My favorite coffee stout to date, yummy stuff.
4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 kathouse (595) - Nevada, USA - AUG 3, 2012
This stout looks and smells like the other speedway versions since all contain coffee, but the Vietnamese coffee adds a really nice flavor not in the others. This was a cask version that had a well balanced carbonation level. Coffee is prominent with a very good contrast to the chocolate and roasted flavors. Best coffee adddition. Wish this was available in the bottle.

Amazingly had this twice in the last month, once at the brewery and the other from a growler shared at a tasting. Black pour with a tan head. Aroma has some dark and bitter chocolate with some nice coffee notes and taste is creamy and good. Lovely Beer!
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 dreadnord (1009) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 27, 2013
Pours dark and black with a thin brown head. The nose is still big coffee, but has some new funky earthiness to it. Cherries and some fresh cabbage with hints of soy sauce. The taste is big sweet, medium high bitter through to the bitter finish. The texture is soft, smooth and creamy, the body is heavy and finish is long.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 McGrupp612 (138) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 12, 2012
Growler to sniffer. Thick black pour with thin brown head. The nose reeks of sweet coffee, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, coffee, coffee and more coffee. The flavor is not as sweet as the nose. Huge coffee flavor, bitter chocolate, roasted malt and a little ashy. Very full body, not boozy at all. An excellent variation of an excellent beer.
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DavoleBomb (1467) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Poured into a snifter from a 32 oz. growler. Huge thanks to anotherjoe for this.
4.5 A: Black color. Two fingers of mainly cream, minorly frothy tan head. Retention is pretty good given the ABV and plenty of lacing is left, which is impressive given the coffee.
5.0 S: This smells amazing. I can’t really remember what the regular Speedway smells like at the moment, but I’m just going to say that this is different and better. The coffee is sweeter and more chocolatety. Supple roast, caramel, light molasses, chocolate, sweet neutral maltiness. Big pithy coconut, vanilla, and a lactose-like creaminess.
4.5 T: Tastes mainly like the nose, but isn’t quite as powerful and impressive. Chocolate, roastiness, neutral maltiness, caramel, molasses, coconut, lactose, coconut, vanilla. Coffee is tangy, super smooth, chocolatety, and wonderfully roasty. Quite tasty.
4.0 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Super smooth and goes down incredibly easy. My only complaint is that it’s not quite creamy enough. Still good here though.
4.5 D: Definitely a winner. I love the original Speedway, but wasn’t impressed with the barrel aged version, but now I’m all about trying variants of this again.
Serving type: growler
