COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
Speedway Stout is a HUGE Imperial Stout, with pounds and pounds of coffee added during conditioning for a little extra kick! This is a limited-edition Formula and it'll definitely get you racing! It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Jet Black, with a toast-brown head. Flavor: Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramelly flavors. Finishes with a nice fullness but dry enough not to be cloying. Aroma: COFFEE! And some other stuff. And coffee. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Velvety smooth texture. Clean and crisp, full-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel a bit. Still, you won't fool your taste buds -- this beer is HUGE!

Black pour with tan head. Big aroma of coffee, molasses, dark chocolate. Full bodied and ridiculously smooth. Flavours of coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, and dark berries with a pronounced bitterness that lingers through the finish. Alcohol well integrated. I’m really quite shocked at how smooth and well put together this is.

Finally got a bottle of this at the City Market Coop in Burlington, VT. Second AleSmith of the Easter weekend, and last beer of this trip. Pours a real dark colour, almost black, with a big mocha creamy head, great retention. Big dark fruits (plums, raisins) aromas with hints of nuts. Again, really fruity for taste. Kind of disappointed with this one, as I expected lots of coffee and more roasted malts being a stout. Feels more like a strong porter.

Pitch black with a dark tan one finger thick head. Aroma is roasted coffee, toffee, butterscotch, roasted nuts. Taste is roasted coffee, slight hops, butterscotch. Palate is bitter coffee and earthy like wood, smoked oak chips. Mouthfeel is medium body, not watery, which holds a decent flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750mL bottle from whole foods, westlake ave., seattle WA. Pretty deep black pour with minimal foam that was the color of caramel. Lots of thick lacing. Smokey, woodsy malt scent that’s smooth, creamy vanilla and bitter fairly acidic coffee and rich nuts too, perhaps floral hops detected. Low carbonation (average for the style), oily mouthfeel, super clean finish for the style. Big malt and alcohol flavor. Creamy at the same time though...difficult to explain. Strong bitter coffee taste. Bitterness and acidity flavors toward the end, floral and pine hops probably. Rich buttery chocolate flavor on finish. Pretty unique example of the style due to what tastes like hop addition. ABV is slightly noticeable. Pretty delicious.

Black pour with a tall, creamy, sorta chunky mocha brown head that has awesome retention and leaves good lacing. Aroma has tons of coffee, chocolate, toast, caramel, a little toffee, sugared roast nuts, a little earthiness and dry floral notes. Flavor is loaded with coffee right away, like good coffee, lots of sweet caramel, roasted nuts and milk chocolate come in, roast malt, hints of pine and bitter dried citrus, earthy notes, some floral and lightly acidic hop notes that could easily be from the coffee instead of hops and as it warms some dark fruit, sweet bread spice and vanilla notes come out. Palate is creamy on entry, with a light, to moderate strength, but blanketing carbonation to break it up before an off dry, but still sort of creamy, but oddly crisp and fairly clean finish. They really worked some magic here, somehow having a beer huge in flavor, complexity, body and alcohol content while having a finish as clean and smooth as most stouts half this strength. Still it has a lingering, pleasant sweetness with a little coffee and nuttiness that lasts a good, long time, it just isn’t overbearingly roasty, or sweet, or bitter, just delicious, leaving me wanting more. It is definitely on the sweet side, but it carries it well, offering an awesome balance in most categories, despite being a 12% Imperial Stout. Fantastic, one of my new favorite beers.

2012 bottle that I won on a contest here. Very good stout with the heightened amount of bitterness that other imperial stouts let get overwhelmed with malt. Coffee and dark chocolate on the finish.

Pours black like used motor oil with a small dark chocolate head. Not much lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, alcohol, coffee, chocolate, liquorice, dark fruits. Taste is huge and complex! Pretty much everything just mentioned in the aroma but intensified. Alcohol warmth is huge and pronounced but not overwhelming. Amazing long finish of coffee, roasted malts and chocolate. Thick, chewy texture. Very lively carbonation. Overall certainly deserving of the 100% rating! Simply amazing!

Pours black as night with the viscosity of motor oil. Mocha colored head of thick foam that dwindles to a small island of bubbles and a thin film. Laces like a champ. Nose is chocolate, roasted coffee, dark roasted malts and a touch of cherry. A little alcohol on the nose but it is 12% after all. Malt goes doughy and deep as it warms and there is bread in this. Taste is huge alright. Greets you with espresso and plenty of roasted coffee flavors, then smooth doughy malt mid palate with some faint floral from the hops, unsweetened cocoa and the dark fruit, then a hint of the molasses aspect of the malt and a grainy feeling on the tongue. It finishes dry and toasted with the chocolate coming in again only sweet this time and with a delectable oily hop bitter. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky with good carbonation. Some alcohol on the palate. It’s the coffee that makes this one stand out and it’s done to perfection. This is truly an impeccable stout.
