msante79 (778), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2008 200th rating! Big thanks to Kegbear for this one. Pours jet black with thin dark tan head that leaves thin ring around edges of my snifter. Aroma coffee, dark chocolate, molasses and roasted malt. Flavor is huge with roasted malt and coffee. Notes of caramel, molasses, and dark chocolate help mellow the coffee flavors. Mouthfeel is clean and crisp. Alcohol tingles on tonge. A fine imperial stout but just not as good as Dark Lord or Expidition Stout. BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Aug 8, 2008 love this brew. Very fruity aroma. Nice thick head and serious lacing. Flavor is heavy coffee, fruit, dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is not as thick as Dark Lord but still nice. Great coffee aftertaste - bitter. Super. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA Aug 8, 2008 very dark rich flavor. Coffee chocolate dark fruit Heaven. Best brew I have tried. Strong % but not harsh. Excellent polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Aug 5, 2008 400th rating! Have been saving this one. Bottle thanks to BOLTZ7555, THANKS AGAIN JASON!! Aroma of coffee, chocolate, dark dried fruits, molasses, and port. Just fantastic! Pitch black with very small brown head that left no lace. Flavor is nice bitter chocolate and espresso. Palate is full bodied and oily flat. A medium bitter finish. Just a fantastic impy. Love the aroma the flavor and the feel. Thanks again Jason for hooking me up with one of the last of my fundamental beers. Just a great brew from beginning to end but the head was a bit lacking but still gorgeous. Really lived up to its score, bravo. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Aug 5, 2008 750ml bottle. Poured jet black with a dark tan head. Big coffee aroma, lots of malty goodness. Now this is blck gold, one of the few reasons I stay in So. Cal, damn we are lucky to live here sometimes. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Aug 4, 2008 I thought, seeing as Tropical Storm (Hurricane) Eduardo is hitting Houston tomorrow, I might be washed out to sea, and it would be a shame not to enjoy some really outstanding and rare beers tonight... First off is a beer that I have wanted for years... Pours a jet black midnight colour, dark as the night when you were a kid sneaking out at 2am....Lacing is really good, spots and dots, lower than expected head, but for 12% good... light alcohol, fresh coffee beans, chocolate from a century old swiss chocolate shop.... wonderful in the mouth, oily and chewy- smooth as silk but bold like a new magnum 500 sharpie ... I don’t get it, the points (score) doesn’t seem to match up on how much I am loving this beer, its not the most wow’ing beer i have had, but its just fuckin good!.. ’shit yeah, man!’ ..’i am the walrus’..’are you a Lebowski achiever’ ... I really like this beer, fuck that stuffed animal you hug at night,i want to spoon this beer when I go to bed... craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Aug 4, 2008 pours a motor oil black with a thick tan head, slow to dissipate. aroma is overtly pungent- strong scent dominated by coffee with hints of chocolate. Flavor is extremely strong, with coffee again taking the forefront but roasted malts coming out as well. Hits strong, but the palate is smooth and balanced. Wondrous brew. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 1, 2008 Lakewood, Ohio, Rozi’s Wine House - foil wrapped 750 ml bottle - nice surprise find in a random visit to this Midwestern suburban store. Tar black pour that looks like liquid asphalt with a a sticky mocha colored head that leaves interesting swirls around the glass. Aroma of dark roasted coffee filters through with some earthy hints of topsoil, and licorice. Flavor is luxuriant, with loads of roasted bold coffee, chicory, dark bakers chocolate and licorice - all blended together superbly. Silky, velvety smooth mouthfeel that coats the tongue. Worth all the hype.
