Big bottle, shared and tasted before and during dessert. Pours a deep oily black with thin brown head of bubbles. Big nose of black coffee, burnt from being on the burner a little too long, with some biter dark chocolate mocha stirred in there. Flavor has a light sweetness rolling into that slightly burnt bitterness, faint touch of smoke there too. Like coffee except better. Very tasty on its own, unbeatable paired with homemade cheesecake. Slightly thick, slick and oily mouthfeel. Long roasty, lightly bitter aftertaste. A very nice experience. elcaballo (101), Beverly Hills, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 4, 2008 An excellent brew. I was worried by the description that the coffee would be overwhelming but the flavors find a nice harmony. The mouthfeel is very smooth, slick and full. The second best in the category I have had to Stone RIS. I will buy this again for sure. buzzoven (333), Japan

Great colour, beautiful head, but I feel that the 13% just kinda kills the effect. There are some roasted chocolate notes and a some pleasant malted chalky coffee tones in the mix, but the ever present burning of alcohol just overides it. Perhaps I am missing something, but It seems like a careless recipe that could be improved upon. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 1, 2008 Pours dark black w/ tan head that fades fast to a lacing in my snifter. Best smelling impy stout I’ve ever had (better than DL) maybe because I love coffee. Also in there is roasted malts, slight caramel, and chocolate. Flavor is coffee, not as in your face as some other impy stouts and the 12% is well hidden. There’s some carbonation coming through the viscosity of this thick brew. Mouthfeel is a little oily DL has a slightly better palate. Very drinkable beer, I’m glad I got two more sitting in the cellar. posikyle (165), Alabama, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | May 1, 2008 Rating #100. Pours out like a low viscosity oil that has a caramelly/malty aroma and thick head with loose bubbles. Tastes like a low viscosity oil, except one that has a complex malt/ coffee mixture. Ends very crisp, with a brief, understated alcohol bite to it. deepsouth (23), biloxi, Mississippi, USA

the smell is of coffee, molasess, sweet malt, roastiness, espresso coffe beans... complex as hell.
the taste is divine and complex and consistent with the smell. indescribably balanced. alcohol present. damn near perfect.
the mouthfeel is full and velvety. it doesn’t get better than this.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 29, 2008 Pour oily black almost gross looking with a dark tan head. Aroma was strong coffee smell. Flavor was also strong coffee with hints of chocolate and a very good job of hiding the alcohol. GAManiac (1142), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Updated: Sep 11, 2008Wow is this a beautiful looking beer! Pitch black pour with a dense 2 finger dark tan head. The head linger for quite a while and leaves a lot of lacing. Roasted malts with dark chocolate and coffee aromas in support. Also faint dark fruitiness in the background. Initial maltiness gives way to a more dominant roasted coffee flavor with figs and chocolate undertones. Extremely complex yet balanced. By far the best tasting coffee-infused stout I’ve ever had. Nice creamy mouthfeel that just coats you mouth completely. Leaves a pleasant lingering coffee bitterness. Wonderful, wonderful beer. This would certainly be near the top of my list of stouts or any beers for that matter.
