Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Speedway Stout is a HUGE Imperial Stout, with pounds and pounds of coffee added during conditioning for a little extra kick! This is a limited-edition Formula and it'll definitely get you racing! It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Jet Black, with a toast-brown head. Flavor: Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramelly flavors. Finishes with a nice fullness but dry enough not to be cloying. Aroma: COFFEE! And some other stuff. And coffee. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Velvety smooth texture. Clean and crisp, full-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel a bit. Still, you won't fool your taste buds -- this beer is HUGE!

Bottle shared by theisti. Tim, you are the man! Pours black with a creamy, mocha head and pretty lace. On the nose are coffee and cream, dark roast and a touch of alcohol at the end. A bit thinner than I had imagined in my mind’s eye, it is medium-bodied and creamy with a moderately bitter-roasted finish and alcohol heat on the exhale. The flavor follows the nose with dark roasted malt, dark roast coffee, cream and just a touch of chocolate. While this wasn’t the Earth-moving experience for which I’d been hoping, this is a great beer and easily one of the most drinkable Impy Stouts that I’ve ever sampled. Thanks again for sharing this with me, Tim!

(750 bottle) I bought this stout based purely on on its very high overall ranking. I’m not a big fan of coffee in the aroma, in the palate, or in general, but I figured I’d give it a shot. I was surprised at how pleasant the aroma was, and how I wasn’t overwhelmed by coffee. The flavor contained a great mix of chocolate and caramel along with the ever present coffee. Overall I’d say a great beer, but I’d prefer something with less coffee next time.

Shared by DrBayern at Steve’s house (thanks Matt). Poured jet black from 750 ml bottle. Aroma of deep roasted chocolate coffee beans, with a slight pine resin. Flavour is of a boldly smooth stout beer, chocolate coffee with milk malts, oily pine resins tease the palate. Simply a wonderful imperial stout beer, AleSmith has magic at their brewery, Americans rejoice!

Pour: Deep black with light head. Hints of coffee and chocolate. Slight hoppy finish imo, which I loved! My fav. stout to date.

Bottle - opens with the lightest of co2 release. Pours black with a cap/mocha light head that immediately falls into a skim of bubbles on the beer’s surface. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted grain and some light hop spice. Flavor is dusty cocoa, bittersweet chocolates, roasted malt and a big dose of java before a faint alcohol/slightly dry finish. Palate is medium heavy.

750 ml bottle, mail ordered from Joey at Southbay on 5/29/07 in Imperial Beach, CA. At time of purchase, this was a fresh bottle I believe. Enjoyed with Gregis. Pour is midnight black with a one inch tan head, with some nice layering. The foam clings to the glass as the head fades, very nice looking. Aroma of roasting coffee beans, cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate and a bright pine hoppiness. Taste is mostly of the coffee, very smooth. The sweetness of the cocoa and chocolate come through also, though pretty muted. The finish is bright, featuring the pine hoppiness. Some lingering heat is evident. Body is medium, actually less full than expected with the big nose and flavor, I have had many fuller bodied Imperial Stouts. This, of course, made this beer really more drinkable than it should be! Overall, I really enjoyed this one, though the coffee was a bit dominant for me. Looks like I should attempt to grab another bottle and put some aged on it. Thanks for doing out of state mail orders, Joey!

Deep black color, amazing mocha head. Nice lacing. Huge nose of coffee, oak, pine, chocolate. Flavor is sweet, creamy, iced coffee, toffee. Such nice carbonation. This is not my style at all, but this is a really special stout. Would rather have a breakfast stout, but this was really good.
