Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Speedway Stout is a HUGE Imperial Stout, with pounds and pounds of coffee added during conditioning for a little extra kick! This is a limited-edition Formula and it'll definitely get you racing! It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Jet Black, with a toast-brown head. Flavor: Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramelly flavors. Finishes with a nice fullness but dry enough not to be cloying. Aroma: COFFEE! And some other stuff. And coffee. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Velvety smooth texture. Clean and crisp, full-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel a bit. Still, you won't fool your taste buds -- this beer is HUGE!

This beer is just way too off balanced. After a couple weeks of my brother’s around the world with stouts, I’ve come to realize that these over the top imperial stouts are really too much, and quite frankly too juvenile. I think that we are in this stage like the wine people where US beer (like US wine) has to go more, more, more over the top, especially with the alcohol level. More isn’t always better, OK? That kind of thinking leaves us with a nation of people that weigh over 3 bills. Come on. We had tons of other stouts that were so much better. Grow up.

Pours like motor oil with thick tan head. Aroma of chocolate and mild hint of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is chocolate, coffee, and a little hop bite in the finish. Nice thick, creamy mouthfeel. Very easy drinking. The age on this one does mellow the coffee bitterness.

beer pours sooo black!!! head is thick frothy brown, leaves a lovely lacing. nose is alcohol, choc, some coffee, vanilla. Flavor is so balanced, all of the things mentioned in the nose, so well done could drink it all night, smooth palate creamy. Can’t believe this is 12%.

2007 bottle. This pours opauqe black in color and a thick brown head. The nose immediately shows off the coffee along with scents of dark chocolate, plum liquor, dark caramel and hazelnut. Thick and rich in the midpalate with a nice bitter/dry edge picking up toward the lingering finish. While it is a sipping beer, it is so well-balanced that it is very easy to drink...not overpowering at all. Yum!

It was extremely hard for me to find anything wrong with this one!!! Pours a shade of midnight and roasted coffee and bitter chocolate hit the nose with a vengeance. The flavors exquisitely match the aroma...and display a richness like none I’ve ever experienced. Without a doubt, my all time favorite!!!

First beer of 08! This was from an 05 bottle. Poured an oil thick and completely opaque black with a nice, thick, brown, head that had good retention and lacing. The aroma was strongly dominated by coffee and a roasted note that gave a clue to the bitterness that lay within. The flavor was dominated by coffee, and was strongly bitter, though the edges had obviously been rounded out with the 2+ years of age. There was a distinct sweetness that poked its head through the bitterness, but it was largely overwhelmed by the coffee and dark chocolates. Little hop note to speak of. Finishes long as the taste sits on the palate just long enough to make itself known. Overall an excellent stout... and a great way to celebrate.

This stout has some serious ballz. Don’t let the cool design on the cover fool you. Strong rich coffee taste, but not too overpowering like some stouts. The mixture of coffee and chocolate is just right. This beer is definately one of my favorites, as it is for most people. A fantastic beer and highly recommended.

3rd stout on the legendary Day of Stouts. My least favorite against the other two I tried, but still very excellent. A bit more vinous and bitter than I like in a stout, more emphasis on coffee, including coffee bitterness which I’m not a big fan of. Still an excellent beer, a friend or two is necessary to tackle a bomber. Thanks Tom!
