3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Smells a little acidic at first, but that soon gives way to dark fruit and malt sweetness. The coffee and dark chocolate make an appearance in the aroma, but are not nearly as strong as I would have thought. Smells more like a Belgian beer than a stout. It doesn’t pour out thick like some big Imperial Stouts, but it is completely black with a light brown ring of foam. Tastes slightly bitter with good coffee undertones and some booze heat in the aftertaste. The plum/raisin flavor is also present throughout each sip. Palate is a little watery. Overall a very solid stout; it would be good aged.

On tap at their tasting room. Pours a very dark brown with a thin brown head. Aroma is coffee and slight roast. Lots of coffee on the flavor. Bitter. Fairly dry. Raisins and plums. Really nice and smooth. Great beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The aroma is an excellent combination of chocolate, maple syrup, vanilla, bourbon, and light coffee (lighter than you would expect). It pours a dark brown, virtually black, with no transparency and a small brown head that diminishes to virtually nothing over time. The flavor starts with chocolate, vanilla, and maple syrup.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sweet, caramelly, and peat notes are also present. I also get a little coffee aroma, too. Mostly opaque dark mahogany cola color with a dark brown head that is small with nice lacing. Roasted, choco/coffee maltiness to start. Rather warming. Light bourbon notes are present in the start and in the finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours coca cola black with a beige head. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee. Flavor follows nose, toasty coffee on dark chocolate. Mild raisin too. not too hot for a 13% beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
From San Diego! Pitch black with a tan head that's not thick but has huge bubbles. Sticky legs. Smells of very dark roasted malt, lots of coffee, raisin/soy sauce, heavy booze, very bitter. Big aroma that's nicely balanced. Tastes of roasted malt, coffee, medium bitterness,. Clean finish. Body is silky smooth, thin but incredibly creamy, really nice. Has the same fineness as the other Alesmith beers I've tried but vastly bigger, more complex, more tasty. A truly great stout, probably within the top 10 beers I've had.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from SD (via G&M) at home. Solid black pour with bubbly creamy tan head - big round tapioca-like bubbles embedded in the head too. Aroma is rich coffee - like fresh roasted beans more than actual liquid coffee - very caramel-y with booziness too. Great so far. Taste is BIG - boozy, roasted coffee bitterness, caramel again. Palate is rich and creamy with fine carbonation, but not too slick. Great imperial stout, lives up to the hype. And not raisiny!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 11, 2014 Bottle. Beermoth, Manchester. Just about black. Thin, lasting, bubbly, light brown head. Roast malts. Light, roast coffee bean. Some greenery. Taste is dry, and light bitter. A little tartness. Palate is airy, and smooth. Not as full as I expected. Finishes fairly dry, and long, roasty bitter.
Finished this a day later. The tartness has subsided somewhat. The palate, as a result, seems fuller. Re-rated from 3.6 to 3.8.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
750 mL bottle. The pour is beautiful. Jet black and thick. With a gorgeous dark khaki brown head and some unbelieveable lacing. The aroma is huge on coffee. There is a beautiful malt profile and some great licorice. There is a little booze and a subtle bitterness that's a little surprising. It's just really good. The flavor is just great. There is a beautiful roast and strong licorice presence that dominates coffee a little that isn't apparent on the aroma. The mouth feel is ridiculous. So thick and creamy. Velvety carbonation for days. Just like nitrogen infused molasses. The aftertaste is great. Light coffee but heavy roast and beautiful dark fruits. I love this beer
