Speedway Stoutís ominous, pitch-black appearance has become a hallmark of this modern-day classic. Chocolate and roasted malts dominate the flavor, supported by notes of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel. A healthy dose of locally-roasted coffee from Ryan Bros. Coffee, Inc. added to each batch brings out the beerís dark chocolate flavors and enhances its drinkability. Despite its intensity, Speedway Stoutís fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel make it very smooth and surprisingly easy to drink. This beer ages very well and will continue to mature for many years to come.

Drank from a 22 oz bottle poured into a glass. Dark black oily appearance when poured with a small, thick and creamy looking head. Strong aroma of coffee beans. Tastes strongly of coffee as well, almost like an iced coffee with some alcohol thrown in! Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin with slight carbonation. As a coffee and beer lover, this is a treat! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

BOD 3/23/15. Pours as dark as pitch black on a starless night. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Almost world class nose of dark chocolate, molasses, hints of dark fruit (plum, raisin), vanilla, caramel and coffee. Full bodied with a rich creamy texture. Below normal carbonation with no effervescence in the middle and a nice burst in the somewhat prickly finish. The flavor profile is outstanding. It is intense, complex and reasonably balanced. However, the alcohol is not well hidden and produces an astringent alcohol flavor that prevents this exceptional stout from being world class. It begins with slightly bitter dark bakers chocolate, cocoa, that hints at sweetness. This flows into a rich sweet molasses with strong caramel notes. The middle is slightly bitter with roast and hop characteristics. Underneath are subtle notes of dark fruit, although not as pronounced as suggested by the nose. They are subdued by the arrival of the grain alcohol astringent flavor, which stays and lingers after the finish. The finish is a slow fade of rich chocolate and molasses that competes with grain alcohol astringency and finally succumbs to it. This is a world class stout that failed to make the grade due to the 12% alcohol content.

Pours black opaque with brown stable creamy head. Aroma: alcohol is mild noticable, prevails notes of coffee, mocha, cocoa powder, oak, vanilla, chocolate, with hints of caramel. Flavor: taste with mild noticable alcohol, strong notes of chocolade, vanilla, cocoa, coffee, with hints of dried fruits, well balanced with fruity esters (pine, plums and even hints of grape). Malt sweetness is medium to high, hop bitterness also. Body is sticky soft, carbonation is low, finish is long lasting. Very good imperial stout, but overall I expected a little more complex beer.

750 ml bottled 01/07/15 from Saveur BiŤre.
Black body, with a medium, dense, creamy, coffee colored head.
Delicious, smooth aroma of melting dark chocolate, espresso, toffee, some vanilla, some dark fruits, slight alcohol.
Taste is also wonderful, smooth, with dark chocolate, coffee beans, wood, toffee, dark and dried fruits, some liquorice, some booze.
Perfect, full, creamy, velvety mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes smooth, with a pleasant moderate alcohol warmth, quite dry, wooden, with coffee, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, slight liquorice.

Amazing! The balance is really outstanding, drinks so smooth, with all flavours in perfect harmony and an incredible, velvety mouthfeel. Alcohol is noticeable, but well integrated and even adding another comfortable layer. One of the very best Imperial Stouts Iíve had so far, completely worth the hype.

22 bomber to cervoise. Pours black, brown frothy head. Aroma of dark malts, both baking and semi-sweet choc, toffee, sherry, caramel. Taste of same. Lots of chocolate and some dark roast espresso. No booze present. Two thumbs up!

Alesmith brews the poster child of an Imperial Stout. Black, full bodied with roasted and chocolate malts, coffee, and alcohol undertones. Total package for my taste buds.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is chocolate cake, brownies, coffee, tiramisu, kahlua. Taste is tang from dark, dark chocolate, acidity coffee, thick liqueur. Very potent, rich and bougie.

Bottled Feb. 2014. Black colour, large beautiful head. Coffee in the aroma feels a bit faded, probably more pronounced when fresh. Zero detectable alcohol, but warms you from inside quite nicely. Viscous, oily body. Taste is somewhat sweet, but the finish is intensely bitter - basically, it tastes like 90% cocoa dark chocolate, except *much* more intense. Finish is what elevates this one above competitors. A very competently executed imperial stout, though I expected a bit more. I think that if it had more coffee left in it, itíd be a solid 4.5.

Pitch black, big shortlived beige head. Aroma of COFFEE, bitter and sweet chocolate and roasted malt. Tastewise loads of bitter coffee, but it is nicely ballanced with sweet notes of chocolate and dried fruit and sharp roasted malt.

750 bottle, Black pour with tan ring and lacing. Aromas are a good mix of coffee followed by chocolate and sweet malts with alcohol. Rich full bodied smooth, well blended flavors of coffee, bitter sweet chocolates. The mellow sweetness is countered by bitterness, this has depth. Big burn in the finish. Best non barrel Imp Stout.
