Ofortuna (315), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA May 10, 2008 Updated: Jul 29, 2008 750ml bottle, 2007 vintage. Gorgeous cocoa foamy head. Huge aromas of coffee, mocha and chocolate. Intense coffee flavour with a wonderful creamy mouthfeel and palate. Nice complexity on this with several layers of flavours being evident. Coffee bitterness paired perfectly with the hop presence helped to lend a wonderful balance to the malt backbone. Hardly a hint of alcohol noticed considering the high level inside my glass. This is outstanding and probably my top imperial stout. Tasting this next to a Darklord, I can say that the DL has more viscosity and is more aggressive. assertive and in-your-face. Speedway is more complex and refined. You can actually taste the various layers of complexity. Coffee, specialty grains, creamy palate and mouthfeel. Just outstanding and so well done.
beerbill (1324), Laurel, New York, USA Oct 14, 2008 750 ml bottle. Its been a while since I’ve had a beer infultrate my top ten. That wait is over. Pours black with a luscious brown head that lasted through mid-glass and left lots of sticky brown lace. Very pleasant aroma of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. The flavor is simply outstanding. Rich chocolate and coffee abound with some roasted malt also present. The mouthfeel is rich and smooth. Absolutely no hint of the 12% abv. I believe the word decadent applies very well to this beer. Superb! ericandersnavy (154), denton, Texas, USA Oct 12, 2008 bottle as a gift. poured black with a frothy light brown head. aroma of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. wonderful aroma. flavor of obvious alcohol, coffee, and chocolate. oily palate sticking the flavor in your mouth. overall strong stuff but very good. Swalden_28 (646), McKinney, Texas, USA Oct 12, 2008 Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a dark Black, no light comming through. Copper tan head, thick. Aroma of strong coffee and chocolate, GREAT! Flavor is very strong baking chocolate, coffee, sweet, alcohol. Mouthfeel is heavy with medium carbonation....Overall, WoW....Good stuff!. Moosington (15), Costa Mesa, California, USA Oct 11, 2008 750 at room temp. Oil black pour with similar viscosity (overstating a bit to be sure). Thin head with staying power on the edges and light lacing. Tons of smoke, chocolate and coffee in the nose, with obvious malt. Coffee dominates the flavor with a smoked chocolate finish, alcohol is very well masked, but it’s definitely there. Drank with a nice steak and it was phenomenal. BREWMUSKCLES (799), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey, USA Oct 11, 2008 nice and strong and warm alcohol presence combined with a malty and smooth coffee taste. toasted sweet caramel flavors balanced with deep chocolate. pitch black and toasted head the brew is complex with a wonderfully full body. a real treat! description is to be believed.
