This beer lives up to its hype and then some. Had on tap at its birth place AleSmith brewery, also purchased a vintage 2004. Excellent beer, maybe my absolute favorite. Full of roasted coffee and caramel flavors, packs a big ABV but very well hidden and extremely balanced. Full bodied and a smooth operator....lethal combo. This beer is first across the finish line.....checkered flag! alandudeman (25), Massachusetts, USA

Fantastic sludge! Intense flavors. Thick and vicious in your mouth. Mild carbonation.
First and last impressions were of coffee. Like damn, this would wake ya up in the morning. The flavors match the description perfectly (see description), all are easily noticed and enjoyed. For 12% this stuff goes down like butter. First you feel a morphine like warming in your chest and then next thing you know, you’re already drunk. This stuff was coffee through and through, but as it warmed (you and the beer) chocolate became noticeable. I prefer Great Divide Yetis flavor a little more but for 12% this one deserves to be king. nparikh (20), New York, New York, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Color is black with a toast-colored head like coffee -- appropriate, because it tastes like roasted coffee beans. Great rich, creamy mouthfeel. Full body. Toasty, roasted coffee/espresso taste (and similar bitterness), caramels. Long finish. Easy to drink despite being 12%. It has the bitterness of good coffee and is more about the aroma and feel than a multitude of tastes. thefrutigers (100), , Arizona, USA

Smells of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Massive coffee chocolate malt flavor with just a slight bitterness and hints of vanilla. Full body feel and sweetness balanced any bitterness. Very smooth finish. Wow and WOW! I love this beer. So far this has been the best tasting beer I’ve ever had. YUMMY!

| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jul 9, 2009 The definitive stout. Aroma full of thick coffee and chocolate notes, poured obsidian black and velvety with a deep caramel/brown head. Flavor was coffee, chocolate, coffee, chocolate, and then more coffee. Alcohol hard to find as the tastes overwhelms the buds, and overall this is what a stout should be. slowrunner77 (58), reno, USA

Last weekend I was at the Stone Winter Storm, drinking 40 vintage, special, cask, and regular release Stone ales. This is pretty much the only non-Stone beer that not only stood up to the best they had to offer, but maybe even bested them all. Huge roasted malt, coffee, chocolate aroma and flavor. HUGE! 90IBUs provide balance, but it’s so malty and sweet that the high IBUs don’t overpower in the least. One of the best ever and worth every penny...$15 for a 750 @Stone...none of the stores had the 2009 yet. Awesome stuff!"

I love the stout, but this one gives lots of chocolate and roast coffee notes, with a very smooth finish and likable aftertaste! HonusWagner (17), Florida, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Pitch black with a nice head and lacing all the way to the bottom of the bottle. Aroma is of strong coffee, with some chocolate and berry notes coming through. As I got to the bottom of my glass I also noticed some slight boozy scents, but they were pleasant rather than overpowering. I wish the nose was slightly stronger, because it smells very good. The taste and mouth feel are absolutely jawdropping. Dark roasted coffee, chocolate, Dr. Pepper (?) and a delicious back end like a lightly sweetened latte. Palate coating, sticky, full bodied but not overly viscous. Insanely drinkable, low alcohol burn. For the money, for the ease of acquisition, and for the ability to be consumed at any age or level of freshness, Speedway Stout might be the best beer in America.
