grandridge (116), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA May 1, 2008 Pours dark black w/ tan head that fades fast to a lacing in my snifter. Best smelling impy stout I’ve ever had (better than DL) maybe because I love coffee. Also in there is roasted malts, slight caramel, and chocolate. Flavor is coffee, not as in your face as some other impy stouts and the 12% is well hidden. There’s some carbonation coming through the viscosity of this thick brew. Mouthfeel is a little oily DL has a slightly better palate. Very drinkable beer, I’m glad I got two more sitting in the cellar.
bierkoning (4636), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 22, 2008 Bottle @ DTS. Cream and dark chocolate in the aroma. Roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate in the flavor. Alcohol is well hidden. Earthy hops in the aftertaste. Rather straightforward IS, maybe lacking a bit in complexity, but still a great beer. ewestern (34), Ohio, USA Jul 20, 2008 Pour was a nice thick black with a frothy dark tan head. Roasted malts and coffee with chocolate came through the nose. Starts with a very slight carbonation on the tip tongue, flavor continues the roasted coffee and chocolate theme. Finish is bitter with a coffee like burn. Not a coffee man myself, but was very impressed with its usage here. I enjoyed how the aroma complimented the taste so well with every sip. jerohen (1458), Bussum, Netherlands Jul 20, 2008 Dutch tasting session Bunnik. Opaque, big brown head. Malty, coffee and some chocolate in aroma. Malty flavour, bitter, chocolate again. Lasting bitter finish. jbrus (4056), Delft, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Bottle@DTS. Nice aroma, blackcurrant, coffee, hint of black chocolate. Opague, brown fine head, good lace. Nice balanced flavor between sweet and roasted bitterness. Alcohol well hidden. oh6gdx (5195), Vaasa, Finland Jul 14, 2008 Bottled. Thick black colour with mediumsized brown head. Aroma is sweet malts, coffee, chocolate, licirice, alcohol and some sour smoked wood. Also a bit vanilla as it warms up. Flavour is very much the same kicking you in the face while drinking. A very nicely balanced big ABV Imperial stout, which still manages to be both powerful yet so smooth and nice.
