4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Originally reviewed 12/26/2012. 750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Iíve had this bottle a good while. At least a year. Jet black with an ample mocha head. Laces beautifully and retains some surface wisps. Coffee with a slightly metallic aroma. Chocolate malts come through just slightly, but coffee is the most dominant aroma. Coffee is extremely well blended. Blends with a deep burnt chocolate flavor. Enough sweetness to keep it balanced and not too bitter. Definite alcohol presence. Gives it a bright almost fruity finish with the bite.
Sharp alcohol, but otherwise thick, chewy, and delicious. Medium carbonation.
Solid, easy to get, delicious stout. Better fresh, it should be said.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, dated 4 months ago. Dark, virtually black pour with a brown head. Aroma is rich chocolate and roasted malts, toffee, some raisin as it warms and a boozy edge. Taste is thick, creamy chocolate and roasted malts, coffee, toffee, hints of dark fruits. A bit boozy, unsurprisingly as the bottle was fairly fresh. A bit sweet and not quite as balanced as some of the other top-level imperial stouts, but very tasty. This will improve beautifully with age, Iím sure.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours dark with a defined and thick foam head that sticks to my glass. The aroma is rich of dark malts, booze, hints of buttery toffee, and it has a smoked presence. There is also a medium intensity of coffee and chocolate. Tasting, I noticed a creamy texture with pleasant notes of bitter coffee, dark chocolate, loads of malted grains, and sugary caramel. The finish is very good. I enjoyed the fading booze taste that is replaced by the blended chocolate, malts, and bitter coffee flavor. Overall a solid beverage.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled 04.04.2014. Aroma of coffee with soy sauce. Pours pitch black with tan head. Taste is very boozy, solvent-green apple like, there is not much something else. I think the cap was not airtight and beer has oxidized but it was not my fault. I have expected a great Imperial Stout and I wasted my money.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Smells like booze, chocolate, and soy sauce. Very low carbonation. Mouthfeel is semi-creamy and semi-foamy. Taste is alcohol, coffee with cream, some caramel, and dark chocolate. In that order. Aftertaste is long length. Starts off with alcohol taste and warmth. The alcohol taste goes away before the warmth does. After about ten seconds, the taste transitions from alcohol to coffee and dark chocolate.
