Speedway Stout’s ominous, pitch-black appearance has become a hallmark of this modern-day classic. Chocolate and roasted malts dominate the flavor, supported by notes of dark fruit, toffee, and caramel. A healthy dose of locally-roasted coffee from Ryan Bros. Coffee, Inc. added to each batch brings out the beer’s dark chocolate flavors and enhances its drinkability. Despite its intensity, Speedway Stout’s fine carbonation and creamy mouthfeel make it very smooth and surprisingly easy to drink. This beer ages very well and will continue to mature for many years to come.

Thanks to the efforts of Adam at Platinum Cellars we are now able to experience some of the delightful beers that we could only dream of. Cost is irrelevant even though there is a serious kick to the kredit kard every time I visit. I enjoyed this with Dave and Steve, my two mates who now bow their heads and admit tht they too, are beer nerds. This was our last beer of the night where there were many great beers supped before this. But still a beautiful beer. Great coffee aromas with roasted malt and caramel. Thick as a triple espresso with a similarly coloured crema. A delighful blend of coffee flavours and well hopped bittereness being supported by a great malt roastiness. A fantastic nightcap.

750ml bottle purchased at the Beverage Warehouse in Winooski, VT. Pours jet black with a thick frothy whipped cream head. Smells intense of sweet coffee, cocoa and vanilla. Taste of dark cocoa, roasted coffee and vanilla and a slight boozy taste. Unbelievable mouthfeel, thick smooth. Love it. Great commercial beer. Absolutely top notch.

[Tap, 4hops]. W aromacie kawa z wanilią. Pojawia się mleczna czekolada. Wyczuwalny mocniejszy alkohol, trochę w stornę bourbonu i paloność. Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta. Bardzo gęste, świetnie ułożone. W smaku kawa, czekolada na pierwszym planie. W tle wiśnie w czekoladzie. Konkretny waniliowy finisz. Alkohol dobrze przykryty, fajnie rozgrzewa w przełyku.

My first one had an initial aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, some fruits and alcohol was also present. Apperance of used motor oil with a thick dark tan head that settled quickly, and left plenty of lace. Flavors of roasted coffee, which was heavy all the way through. It also had hints of fruit and the dark chocolate was also quite noticeable. Together they all blended well even though the roasted coffee was dominant, still the others managed to get noticed. Overall a pretty fine brew, i am glad i finally found some. However on opening my second last night it wasnt as enjoyable because the alcohol dominated everything in both smell and flavor, it was kind of disappointing in comparison to my first sample. Guess that i will have to drink a third one to see what the truth is.Originally rated on 10/7/2008.

The aroma is coffee/raisin, maybe a touch of anise. Pours black with a big and creamy light brown head, mostly diminishing and excellent lacing. The taste is sweet. The body is full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish long. Very Good!!

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2016 750ml : (in a Sam Smiths Imperial Stout snifter) I was excited to pick a couple of these up at Brewdog ... Wow , now I don’t keep tabs on my subdued indifference toward craft beer and my jaded outlook, but I’ve not been excited by a beer in about 47 months . The nose is really sublime .. the first thought as the aroma intertwined and melted into my mind was Sri Lanka’s Lion Stout , my all time favourite stout ... The notes of dark fruit like prune and rich caramel mixing like C3po at a gay robot party hosted by RichTheVillian. Roast malt and shitload of coffee . Huge beige head resembling the moon ... above a blackness that’s almost as cool as Tupac . Rich and powerful to drink .... The first glass had an intensive bitterness that took away some of the otherwise delicious flavour, but the second two glasses were departed in this hindrance- way more rounded and soft . Notes are grate . Roast and deeply coffee’ish . ( I’m gonna open another bottle soon) and finish this rate off . Give me 20 minutes.: 750ml number 2 . This might be a cooler beer than 20 minutes ago ... I’m twenty minutes more drunk and a second 750ml is even more charming. I gave the palate a humble 3 because of the relentless fucken bitterness that burnt my palate like a Cuban if I’m incoherent , but it’s departed in the alchemy of the overall spirit of Speedway Stout. Maybe a superior bottle?. Who gives a shit? , this is fucken good xsnobe bier.

One of those occasions where the hype is justified... This pours opaque black with brown head that fades to a clingy ring. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate and mild roast. No alcohol to be detected. Flavor is similar. Sweet notes of chocolate coat the tongue... I’m so burned out on coffee stouts I was hesitant about this one... but the coffee flavor is mild and delicious in the background. It’s so smooth and clean-finishing. I’m going to stock up more bottles in the cellar.
