4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 5, 2012 On tap at brewery. Black with dense brown head. Nose coffee and sweet roast malt. Sticky. Taste is huge. Big sweet pungent coffee. Long and strong bitter back. Coffee and cocoa. Gooey as hell. Dry cocoa palate in finish. Rerating up from 4.1. Just super rich and thick, sharp and smooth and gooey all at the same time.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml. bottle. It pours black with a nice tight tan head. The aroma is rather sweet and decadent with coffee, dark chocolate and brownies. Fresh baked brownies right out of the oven in fact. The flavor is very rich with dark chocolate, caramel, coffee and a perfectly roasted malty finish. This has a thicker body than I remember from regular Speedway, but itís been a while so I may not be accurate on that. Quite syrupy in fact. The caramel, roast, coffee and fudge brownies make for a really nice treat. Even though the body is thick, Iím not getting any harsh alcohol from this and it goes down surprisingly easy. This reminds me of what I loved about this style.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On draft, cask, nitro and bottle, simply an amazing beer thatís near perfect to the style. I loved the chocolate coffee tastes but the kick of spice was epic.

Speedway is good, Barrel Aged Speedway is better, but Vietnamese Coffee Speedway is my favorite of them all.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of deep roasted barley malt with notes of dry coffee with some hazelnut nectar which rounds off some of the rough edges. Taste is a mix between some deep dry roasted malt notes with dry coffee notes and some hazelnut notes which helps rounds off the flavours. Body is quite full with good carbonation and nice creamy body and no apparent alcohol. I liked this version better than the Koppi version.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ The HUGE Tasting. Cheers to whoever brought this along. Deep brown pour with a small tan head. Mellow burnt marshmallow. Condensed milk. Dark chocolate. Rich roasted coffee bean. Moderate bitterness. Somewhat hoppy. Decadent cream and milk chocolate. Ashy roasted malts. Medium body, active carbonation. Overall, a bit sweet for my tastes. To be honest, I prefer the base beer.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle thanks to dogday. Shared at Jeffís. Pours black with a medium sized creamy head that fades to ring and leaves some oily webbing. Aroma is an awesome mix of fresh lightly roasted coffee beans with rich chocolate cake. Hints of vanilla and caramel too. Taste is up there with the best beers Iíve had. Chocolate cake, fudge, fresh coffee beans, caramel, very light roast, and toffee. I love the sweetness is light to moderate even though itís exploding with rich chocolate. Ultra smooth and creamy finish. Amazing beer.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy chocolate, roasted coffee, a touch of molasses, and anise. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights around the edges of the glass. It had a one finger light brown head with pretty good retention and leaves some thin webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with chocolate, caramel, and a touch of molasses. The finish has moderate roasted coffee, faint vanilla, and a hint of alcohol. It?s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this may be the best non-BA Speedway I?ve had.

Big thanks to DocJ007 for sharing this one with us last night at our monthly tasting.
A - Pours jet black with a nice one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace down the sides of the glass.
S - Smells of intense fresh brewed coffee, bit of bakers chocolate, dash of vanilla extract, molasses, dark fruits, plenty of dark roast and some light booze. The coffee is intense and yet it doesnít completely overshadow the supporting aromas.
T - Starts off with with a huge blast of fresh brewed vietnamese coffee that never really fades away. Hints of vanilla, molasses, bakers chocolate, dark fruits and plenty of dark roast help round it all out. Booze grows as it warms up but never really gets in the way of the flavors. Finish is pretty roasty with a bit of sweetness, lingering long after the finish.
M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Heavy, roasty feel from start to finish. Pretty easy to consume all things considered.
O - I have wanted to try this one for a long time and I am really glad it lived up to my expectations. The coffee was stronger than the Kopi version which was a pleasant surprise, yet it was still pretty easy to consume. After mixing some of this with the BA speedway we drank right after it itís safe to say that I would love to see a BA version of this.
