Pours a nice dark brown color with little to no head. The aroma is somewhat chocolate mixed with some toffee and caramel. The taste is very smooth with nice notes of burnt cherries, raisin and some very slight notes of hops and vanilla on the finish. A true masterpiece of a beer, props to Alesmith!!

750ml bottle shared. Pours a very dark amber. Sweet nose. Caramel, chocolate, plums, vanilla, and just more sugar. Very sweet and rich. A rush of sugar and then some subtle dark fruit, almost like prunes and raisins. A bit of smokiness as it warms. A very big beer that tastes like a big beer.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rating #600. Pours almost black with dark brown tones and a fairly compact foam tan head. Aroma is caramel, honey, figs, dates, roasted walnuts, molasses. Taste is caramel, figs, dates, molasses, plum, slight taste of smoked bacon, honey, hints of chocolate. Mouthfeel is quite creamy with almost no carbonation. Aftertaste sees the chocolate much more to the fore, with caramel, maple syrup, roasted walnuts and chestnuts. Extremely well balanced and just great!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 750mL bottle into Spiegelau tulip glass.
A: Copious amounts of sweet malts with caramel and dark fruit notes. Surprisingly more subtle and smooth that I anticipated for the style.
A: Pours a deep garnet in color, almost opaque. with a thin cap of light-brown head and a few small spots of lacing down the glass.
T: As expected, an extremely malty profile with toffee and roasted malts taking the forefront, melting into candied sugar and dark fruit flavors. Finished with a warming alcohol, quite strong.
P: For a 10% ABV, it is actually pretty thin and light bodied with low carbonation, which makes this easy to drink.
O: An OUTSTANDING example of the style, I am very impressed with this beer and brewery. Itís much more complex than many of the other wee heavy out there and it hides the alcohol so well that itís actually a sniper.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle poured into a tulip. Pours black, but when held up to a light it is a slightly translucent dark crimson with small beige head. Caramel aroma, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is complex caramel, chocolate, hint of alcohol, and molasses. Expected to really like this one, but a bit too heavy for me.
