3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown with reddish highlights. Thin brown head, spotty lacing. Nose is peated malts, raisins, warmed caramel, toffee, and a little chocolate. Flavor shows the classic peated malts and sweet dark malted notes. A bit muddled however and the body shows some thinness for the flavor profile. Semi sweet finish. Its hard to get behind most scotch ales, and this one is no different.

I could get pretentious with my review of this beer, like so many others. This simply is a great tasting beer.

750 ml bottle shared with Calm_Dreamer and Imperallis. Dark ruby, hazy color with a nice, brown thick head. Aromas of caramel, honey, alcohol, wine, dark fruits, resins.. and so many more!! Excellent taste, very sweet of caramel, resins, alcohol, some wood (???) cognak and Bailley’s notes!! Long aftertaste, very sweet!! Full body with low carbonation!!!!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Too deep and dark amber ruby brown body with brown full foamy head. Aroma of acohol, wine, caramel, raisins. Same taste with a hint of cognac. Very full syrupy body. Well balanced, it goes down easily. Very long lasting aftertaste that leaves a sweet burning feeling in the chest.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Initially pitch black that turns to a dark crimson when held up to a light. Head is about a finger think and khaki colored; leaves behind good lacing. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, scotch, oak, smoked malts and rum raisin. Flavors of caramel, scotch, vanilla, chocolate, rum raisin, dark fruits, smoked malts and a dry hopped aftertaste. Body is on the heavier side but has a smooth and creamy texture. Soooo good!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at BrewDog Shepherd Bush on 1 February 2014. Poured a very dark chestnut with a thin, off-white head and some lacing. Nutty aroma with strong caramel and earthy notes. Initial flavours not unlike port with some molasses and biscuity malt. Full bodied and smooth mouth feel. Finish was liquorice, dark rum and chewy malt. Lovely stuff.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 22, 2014 On tap poured into a 4 oz shaker sampler glass. I probably didn’t give this one a fair shot though; as I was sampling this, the brewmaster came out with a sample of the barrel aged wee heavy which he said they were beginning to bottle up. I’m sure this is a mighty fine scotch ale as everything else these guys put forward is incredible, but the barrel aged version is that much more special - it was hard to believe they came from the same initial batch. The aroma is that of dark fruits - primarily figs and raisin - with some light chocolate notes. It’s a dark, nearly opaque, caramel color with a thin eggshell colored head that leaves no lace. It’s a malty, medium-high sweet malty taste. It’s a medium bodied beer with a thick, sticky texture and a fizzy carbonation. It finishes smoky and chocolatey.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This is worth all the hype. The aroma is dominated by traditional caramel. For all us scotch ale fanatics, this is a must.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark red brown. Aroma is dark fruits, earthy, peat, a little smoke. Taste is similar, sweet dark malt caramel, with the sufficient hops growing in the middle and leaving a balanced lingering aftertaste. Not bad and not much sign of alcohol.
