3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 callmemickey (1359) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 31, 2012Dark brown with reddish highlights. Thin brown head, spotty lacing. Nose is peated malts, raisins, warmed caramel, toffee, and a little chocolate. Flavor shows the classic peated malts and sweet dark malted notes. A bit muddled however and the body shows some thinness for the flavor profile. Semi sweet finish. Its hard to get behind most scotch ales, and this one is no different.

A dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet burned malt with vanilla notes, wooden notes, burned caramel, licorice, very nice. In mouth, a smooth sweet caramel with licorice, loads of burning alcohol, very nice.

Dark Mahogany with ruby highlights. One finger light mocha colored head with excellent retention. Does fall to a nice collar. Good waves of lacing.
Nose is molasses, caramel, chocolate, nuts, and dark stewed fruits. Inviting smell.
Superb taste. Caramel, molasses, milk chocolate with nuts and stewed fruits.
Deep, long lasting finish. Well hidden ABV. Lots of molasses and caramel in the mouth.
Superb beer

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 McNeillR (249) - SCOTLAND - MAY 4, 2013
Firm cola brown body, shade of haze but beige fizzy head. Earthy fresh wet compost nose with spriteful brown sugar tinge. Oaky but smooth carbonation combo slips a silly ABV away easily. Meaty malt in the middle without hanging around too long, complex without being overpowering. Sweetness is constant but allows a little room for a crystal tang linger. Teeth gummingly gud liiiike.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Dark brown/hazel pour with a two toned dark brown to light brown head. Smell is dominated by caramel and sweets, malts, and almost belgian yeast notes. Medium carbonation, malty caramel body, pretty full body with a smooth yeasty finish that is slightly bitter and dry.
