Crosling (1704), Loveland, Colorado, USA Apr 14, 2005 Light orange with a tinge of gold. Big malty nose with a big toffee base and hints of honeydew melon, vanilla, banana, white nectarine and honey. Peppermint sticks are present in the aroma as well, and odd considering I noticed the same thing in the old Stumblin Monk. The nose is great but unfortunately it’s a bit cloying in its malty sweetness, which doesn’t mix very well with the oxidation. Honeydew melon flavors continue on, with many fruit forwards notes, along with a huge dose of honey on the finish.
BeerandBlues2 (2630), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 16, 2008 GABF 2008, Dr. Bill’s tasting. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of alcohol, banana, and dates. Medium bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and an astringent finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness and acidity, light bitterness. JMFG (1202), Florida, USA Aug 19, 2008 Sampled @ RBSG, courtesy hellomynameis. Cloudy light amber color, broken light white head. Wheat, caramel, subtle alcohol notes, apricot, light phenols. Smooth taste, defined wheat character, butterscotch, pepper, apricots. A hint of oxidation, but held up amazingly. Real fortunate to be able to try this. Smooth, delicious and just lovely. mgumby10 (1651), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Huge surprise to taste this at RBSG. I didnt even know they bottled it! Pours a light orange color ,with a smallish off white head. Smells of sweet caramel malt, traces of some wheat, and creamy vanilla. Nice aroma. The flavor has some big butterscotch effects going on, mixed with some dark fruit, vanilla, and creamy malts. Real easy drinking and smooth on the palate. Just flows down the throat like a river. Absolutely thrilled I got to try this one.
