COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People’s Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Bottle pour. X marks the spot! This APA is superb. Great citrus aroma coupled with a smoothed out mellow carmel malt balance. My new go to!

On tap at their tasting room. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow. Aroma is slight lemon straw grass. Flavor follows with mild bitterness. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at El Dorado. Pours almost clear gold with a creamy off white head and tons of lacing. Tastes like dry pale malt, smooth lemon and grapefruit, some dry pine, some alcohol. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like grapefruit, light pine, musky, resin, pale malt.

rather pale and clear, nice head. American piney hop aromas, very interesting. Super nice citrus and some flowery hay/earthy taste. Something very distinct, yet very drinkable and great Pale Ale. It?s too rare that one has the opportunity to have something like this.

Bottle. Pours a very hazy dark golden color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose has some citrus and pine coming through, and just seems super fresh. Taste is slightly bitter, and just a bit crisp, with good clean hop flavors coming through. Really quite pleasant.

On tap at the brewery. It poured a golden/yellow color with a white head. The aroma was of lemon, pine, grass and some sweet malts. The taste was of biscuits, malts, citrus, and some pine and resinous bitterness. Very nice.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5045) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 18, 2014
Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a slightly hazy very pale yellow color with a small fluffy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was dryish and bitter with vague fruity hops and a touch of herbal hops. The flavor was thin and bitter with sharp fruity and floral hosp with a faint tangy undertone. Medium length finish. Light body. Meh.

Aroma: caramel, citrus, bread malts, grain. Appearance: clear gold, small, frothy, white head. Taste: light bitter and sweet. Palate: intense grains, floral bitters coming up, getting farely intense, dry finish. Overall: very nice APA, great aroma. Pint at AleSmith Brewing Company, San Diego.

The mouthfeel is similar to a session IPA but a little lighter. Spruce hops, a little citrus, medium bitterness. A perfect session beer with plenty of flavor. Would go great with some buffalo wings.

"another brew, another winner from Alesmith. Bright floral hops on the nose and a nice balance between bitter hops and floral (and a slightly sweet fruity malt) in the flavor. not sure what i think of bottle conditioning a pale, though. the carbonation was a little high and tight but it went down smooth. classsic PA look, but for the yeast on the bottom. nice finish. quite good, not quite the best among the best pales...don’t worry Alpha King or Hop Trip..."

From backlog. Bomber. Pours a mostly clear pale yellow-orange color with a big fizzy head that fades quickly. Big lemony aroma, somewhat musty. Hints of pine and malt. Taste is lemon zest and very light pine. Fizzy carbonation and lemony taste make it seem like a Belgian blonde. Overall, it’s decent and unique but I probably won’t buy again.
