COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

A: poured into a snifter. X pours a light golden color. Nice white head on top, decent head retention, and a fair amount of lacing. S: Initial aroma is of floral hops with some citrus thrown in there as well. Some sweet caramel malts are present in the aroma as well. Smells like an IPA more than an APA/ T: great tasting APA. Nice solid hop flavors very similar to the aroma with floral and citrus tones. The malts match up really well but are a little light. A little sweet in the finish. The malts could be a little more present. M: smooth and almost creamy. I feel this is a little too light, both on the weight and flavor. Could use some more body. D: it is good, but it just feels as if it is lacking in something. pretty good representation of style, but it just needs some more body.

Bottle, thanks to BMan113VR! Andrew you need a shorter handle, man! Pours hazy gold, thin white head, spotty lacing. Nose is tangerines, grapefruit, mandarin, light pine, very pretty and soft. Flavours are lightly soapy and tea-like, very delicate and fresh, nice grapefruit and spicy hop character. I was perhaps hoping this would be more "lifted", as the hops aren’t quite as elegantly presented as I would have liked. Still exceptionally nice though. Just missing something...

Bomber from Secret Santa. Thanks man! Pours orange with small white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, light sweet malts, a touch of honey. Flavor is mildly bitter and refreshing. Light citrus, some pine, some honey malts. A touch of grass. Light bodied. Finishes on a sweet malt note. Pretty nice beer.

Pours a nice golden yellowish color with a white foamy head. Smells of pine needles with a little bit of orange zest. Bit of a bitter taste with this beer but it is not overdone. Nice citrusy notes wit this beer with a little taste of a flower mixed in. Great pale ale.

Bottle: Pours clear golden, with a pillow fluffy head that lasted forever. Flavor of light citrus and pine hops, almost an earthy hop malt finish.

Damn good beer. Poured from a bomber to get a huge, foamy, frothy, fluffy, sudsy, off-white head that lasts all the way down and some lace. Color is a slightly hazy yellow amber with small bubble trails. Aroma is lemon, hops, malt. Flavor’s the same plus the hop flavor comes out. Body is good and carbonation is outstanding. Finish is like flavor and of medium length. Great beer and for session as well.

The beer pours a straw-yellow color with a white head. The aroma is very fruity. I get some papaya, mango and pineapple as well as some bready malt. The flavor is heavy on the tropical fruit. It is a mix of fruit components, with the papaya and mangoes standing out. There is a ton of hop flavor, but the hop bitterness is low. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A great pale ale and a ton of flavor in a lower ABV package. We need more beers like this one.
