COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale amber with a thick foamy white head. Hoppy aroma, quite sweet, of preserved citrus, grass, and malt. Taste is bright and lightly bitter, of hops, malt, and grass. Light mouthfeel. Lingering light bitterness that ends a bit watery. Very drinkable.

All kinds of citrus in the aroma, with lemon predominating. A touch of pine. Taste is slightly sweet up front, with the pine/citrus coming through quickly and a touch of lasting bitterness. Very light-bodied for the amount of "hoppiness," which is sometimes tough for me to process mentally due to all the great IPAs and double IPAs out there. Great session beer for those into the hops.

UPDATED: DEC 20, 2010 Bottle in San Diego. Nice citrus and hops scent. Mild bitterness in the smell that amplifies in the taste. Clear, mild carbonation with head that dissipates quickly. Bitterness dominates the palate. Not as nice as their normal IPA, bu nice none the less. Makes me think of mountains in the morning.

West USA trip 2010. On tap @ Alesmith. The aroma has some sweetish caramel malts and grapefruit. Slightly hazy, amber coloured beer with a white head. The taste is light sweet and bitter. It has citric hops, some pine and caramel malts. Crisp. Light-medium bodied beer. Nice one.

Clear, bright light orange body and a big, soapy, bright white head. Clean malt and lemony hops dominate, with very light and drying resinous aftertastes and just a hint of alcohol near room temperature. Light and clean palate that does not overwhelm given all of the flavor this beer possesses. Usually, my palate is saturated by overwhelming pale ales, but this APA is one that I can have several of and walk away with a fairly clean palate, even going back to lighter styles like a kolsch or pils.

Tap. Pours pale yellow with beautiful white rocky head. Sweet and smooth, this is one easy drinker; perfect for a hot summer day if you want a little flavor without being too filling.

Perfect summer ale. Crisp and hoppy and gotta love the 5.2 ABV. All day by the BBQ. Little soft in the aroma and finishing hops but really I’m not complaining, great beer.
